Joys of Boys - Puberty

I have no idea if this is an appropriate place to post this but I would like some help and advice please!

My DS, (10), has just had the first puberty talk at school and, understandably, has a lot of questions. I'm happy to talk about these things with him, and feel it is important to do so partly because he seems a little scared and a bit more knowledge and understanding should help.

The thing is while the basics of the physical changes are obviously fairly straightforward to discuss, some of the other aspects are just not really in my sphere of knowledge, what with never having had a penis.

I am a single mum and his dad isn't around at all. My brother lives in Australia so isn't around to have a chat with him or anything.

Can anyone recommend a book or website or something which he and I could look at together which will cover everything from a boy's perspective?

Thanks!

Usbourne do a great pair of boks about puberty, one for boys and one for girls.

There is also a book by the TV doctor Chris (can't remember his surname) which is good for boys (less good for girls)

ah thanks that's a great starting point thanks.

I realised that my own knowledge wasn't going to cut it when my sister and I had a chat and I said all the usual stuff about body changes, hair growth, voice breaking, sweating and acne, and she said "oh! and wet dreams!"...

at which point I realised I have no clue where to start haha Grin

I think we got the book living with a willy. Might be more suitable in a couple of years though

LOL is there really a book called Living with a Willy? that sounds like an owners manual Grin

might just be perfect for this job! thanks all.

Oh yes wet dreams etc is all covered in those books.

They probably go a bit further than you would think for this age, but i always think it is helpful to have had the subject raised before you get there!

The books also have a bit about the other sex - eg girls from a boys perspective. By that I mean information about what is going on in a girls body, and how to understand it.

Excellent. thanks all for the suggestions on handling this delightful topic!

I've written down the names of the books and I'm going to pop to the library on my lunch break and see if they're got any we can borrow as a starting point.

I always thought there had to be something which having a man about would have made easier but up until now I hadn't come across anything Grin
