Would you tell on this person?

About 3 years ago we found out that the bookkeeper for my DH's business had been stealing from us for some time. Over about 5 years they had taken tens of thousands of pounds. A family member of theirs paid about a third of the money back, so long as we didn't go to the police. As a result we had to get rid of some staff members, downsize our offices and generally cut back.
It has been a very difficult time, and we've just had some more bad news today and have lost a very big contract. Quite by chance this week, the person that took the money has appeared on my LinkedIn account as someone I may know. I can see who they work for and think I should contact then to let them know what happened to us.
While this person worked for us part time, they had other part time jobs that were always short-lived. The reasons given for leaving these jobs, were among others, that the other company needed this person full time or to work Fridays, which they didn't want to do, but I think these other companies discovered what they were doing and sacked the person, and who then probably stole from us to pay the company back, and so long as the company got their money back, they probably just kept quiet. Which is what we also did to a certain extent.
I'm sat here shaking with adrenaline as it looks like we will have to get rid of some more employees, one of whom is a family member, and I'm genuinely worried for the company again. I would be gutted if someone could have stopped this happening to us and so I am thinking of letting this new company know, but not sure how to approach this, without the person knowing.
Do anyone have any ideas? I am absolutely gutted right now.

You shouldn't have accepted the agreement that the family member served to you. However it isn't a contract, and it is your word against theirs that the agreement happened. Problem you have is you should have reported this to the police straight away, as I'm assuming sometime has pasted(?), and it now cannot be proved. This will also be seen as your word against theirs, unless of course you have concrete proof. I doubt you'll receive a good outcome to it, without proof. Without it being reported to the police it is highly unprofessional for you to be seeking out the company that they current work for. Without the proof, from a police report, they probably won't take it seriously. Also if this person is on a contract they cannot be dismissed without reason.
I'm sorry that you and your DHs business is suffering, but ruining the reputation of the thief isn't going to help. I do understand your anger, and why you'd want to react this way but it could also back fire, and make you look like liars. Which in return could affect your business further.
I really hope the business can survive OP, and again I'm sorry this has happened Flowers

Thanks for your reply, yes I know we have no proof and I wish no ill will on the thief, I am just thinking of the other business and if it suffers like we have and they could have been saved from it. But I suppose I'll never know unless this person eventually gets caught again and charged.
We took the money that was offered by the family member in order to keep the business afloat and to save jobs, going to the police would have meant the business would have folded. It's very tough to still be feeling the implications this far down the line. However, I am sure if someone contacted me under these circumstances I wouldn't believe them either.
Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated and the shock has worn off from Tuesday, hopefully new customers will come along and we'll pick up again.

It is not too late to report what happened to you to the police especially if you were bribed with money to not do so. That is two offences rolled into one. This could happen to anyone. I know a firm of accountants who got taken for nearly £30k last year by a bookkeeper and they should have spotted that far far sooner! The law is on your side here OP and they could end up being ordered to repay you if it were to go to court. I hope your business picks up soon whatever you decide to do.

Its probably worth reporting to the police because they may have other people who have done the same but lack evidence and also it may give you some peace of mind even if the outcome isn't exactly what you want.
