Weight Gain 9 1/2 year old daughter

Looking for advice, my 9 1/2 year old DD is putting on a bit of weight on her tummy area. She is exceptionally tall for her age, wearing 11-12 clothes, will be 12-13 uniform after summer even though not 10 till December. I have noticed recently, that although she is quite active, she is gaining a wider waistline. Is this puberty setting in? I have a DS who has always been a slim build. Concerned, about whether I should try to cut down food portions, or let it go as she is perhaps hitting puberty and it's puppy fat?

Have you done her BMi?
That should guide you whether changes need to be made or not.

Genuinely not thought about that. Where would I find the information for this?

I would imagine it's the begins of puberty. It's normal for girls to put on weight at this time and unhealthy for them to cut out foods right now. As long as she's living healthily, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

I am thinking it may be puberty, but as yet no signs of chest development or anything, so wondering if it's all just getting ready to kick off. Thank you, beginning to wonder if I am over analysing the situation. She genuinely is only allowed sweets at the weekend and has a fairly balanced diet, so hopefully it is nothing I should stress about.

My DD is 10 in late July and although slim everywhere else, she now has a big tummy. she wears 11-12 clothes and is in 12-13 in smaller sizes like Primark etc. I really worry about her but I do think it's the beginnings of puberty. She doesn't eat many sweets etc but is quite hungry/greedy.

I am so glad to hear that, I am genuinely panicking that I am turning her over weight, but at the same time thinking how? She is quite active, always out playing on bike and trampoline and dances 4 hours a week and as I say she does not have a high fat diet. Just feel a bit lost as my DS is a completely different build.

Here's the BMI Calculator

Thank you for the link, just checked and says she is a healthy weight, so probably is puberty and will just keep feeding her healthily and keep her active. Although good to know there are others with the same concerns.

Boys are very very different from girls remember - her hips could be setting in - if she is gaining weight and you're definite about her diet and excercise then it is either puberty or a weight disorder and restricting will not help x

Glad you checked out the numbers, and all is well.
