Smoothies, enzymes and digestion

IIRC from O-level Biology (that long ago!) digestion of carbohydrates begins in the mouth. You need to chew thoroughly to allow the ...amylase?...in saliva to begin breaking down carbohydrates.

So if you drink a fruit or veg smoothie, where you don't need to chew, does that mean a step in the digestion has been skipped? What does that mean for overall digestion?

The blitzing of the fruit/veg breaks up molecules too so sugars are released. I don't like smoothies - too gloopy

Yes, exactly. The sugars are released but spend barely any time in the mouth, exposed to amylase.
