Holiday Disaster!!

Cabbage47 · 14/04/2017 21:01

Just need some parental advice please.

Myself and OH have worked our backsides off (both full time) for 6 years so that this year we are able to take our 1 and 3 year old away for a holiday. It's not extravagent by any means but means a lot to us. A couple of weeks ago I had a mail saying that are E-Tickets have arrived. Great I thought, only to find out that Thomsons have changed the outgoing flight time. This time difference now means that we are arriving after the hotel restaurant has closed for the evening (we have booked all inclusive). I am now absolutely petrified that we will arrive with tired hungry children (there are only so many crisps and chocolate they can have before they really have to have something substantial) who have to wait until breakfast to have something decent to eat, or we end up having to take the little mites to an outside restraurant over an hour after they would normally have been in bed.... Thomsons have basically offered an apology but no resolution has been forthcoming. I booked with them rather than organising my own as I wanted it to be drama free (in as much as travelling with a 1 and 3 year old is) but now my anxiety has gone through the roof and I feel really let down and really angry that we have been put in this position. I know it's not life or death but to me it's ruining something that we've worked so hard to have. I can see my 1 year old having the worst night ever and leaving us all (included our hotel next door neighbours) exhausted. Any reassurance would be really gratefully received

Eat on aircraft
Sometimes AI resorts do have food for late arrivals.
I would try not to let this stress you out.
No one will die

You may find there is a snack bar that is open later than the main restaurant but take your own snacks too. Which hotel is it?

MoonfaceAndSilky · 14/04/2017 21:15

Can you email the hotel directly. They are usually very accommodating. Even if it's a bowl of pasta and some salad.

^ This. Whenever we have arrived late, when all inclusive, the hotel have always provided us with a drink and some food, even if it's just a sandwich.

We always take a 'picnic' for first night snacking. A sandwich each, packet of crisps, choc bar, piece of fruit and a drink. Been doing it since our first holiday with DD when she was 1, she's now 12 and it's still our ritual, never mind what time we get into resort.

We buy 'posh' sandwiches from Gregg / Starbucks / Pret or the like rather than a box standard WHS sarnie and make a 'thing' of it.

(Yeah, I know, sad as hell. But it's a tradition that I won't give up in a hurry Smile)

whatdoyouwant · 14/04/2017 21:16

You're making a way bigger deal of this than it really is, just pack some food incase the hotel doesn't provide anything for late arrivals (they usually do) It's not a disaster!

pictish · 14/04/2017 21:16

Aw look...if your anxiety is going through the roof over a potential missed meal you need to take deep breaths in every sense. A late night won't kill your child and neither will a bowl of cereal for dinner.
It's going to be fine. Enjoy your holiday. xx

spectacularvelvet · 14/04/2017 21:16

Every all inclusive I've been to or worked in arranges food for late arrivals... you've paid for a nights accommodation so SHOULD be getting food - and I'd be surprised if you aren't.

coursedarlin · 14/04/2017 21:16

We had this and when we arrived to the resort we had some little goody bags with fruit, a roll etc in and then we ordered a pizza to the room while we explored the resort. There really is nothing to worry about and definitely not a disaster. You could easily still get delayed so would probably be wise to have something to eat on the plane and anything when you get there is a bonus

Ragwort · 14/04/2017 21:17

Seriously - you are making an absolute drama out of this - just how much food would 1 and 3 year old eat anyway? Just take along a decent selection of snacks and eat at the airport.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 14/04/2017 21:17

Hotel will plate something simple up for you if you contact then in advance,
No big deal.
Certainly not a disaster

MadMags · 14/04/2017 21:18

Wow this is really, really, really not a big deal.

Is your anxiety always this bad??

Eat at the airport. Pack some supplies in your hand luggage. It really will be fine!

tasmaniandevilchaser · 14/04/2017 21:18

There will be food at the hotel when you arrive. Just snack stuff but it will be fine. The kids will probably be too tired to eat but you can pick up some snacks at the airport for the flight/ transfer if they need something. Don't worry!

leccybill · 14/04/2017 21:20

Done this loads of times.
Once they left the hotel restaurant open, another time they left plate of sandwiches and fruit in our room. Another time we went out and got chips! All a big adventure. No need to flap.
Pack a few sandwiches to put your mind at ease if you like though.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 14/04/2017 21:20

Food you can get on a Thomson flight.

thomson.inbro.net/seeinsidebrochure/Thomson_The-Cafe:-On-Board-..-Winter-2016..17/doublepage

Alternatively - buy a meal deal from Boots at the airport.

Everything I have been on AI and we've arrived just after restaurant closes they have saved food / held the buffet open / had food in the room. Usually of the salad / bread / cold meat variety.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 14/04/2017 21:20

Most hotels will also do a picnic breakfast for those needing an early start

shirleycartersaidso · 14/04/2017 21:20

It will be fine, honestly. Even if it's a bag of
Crisps and an ice cream at the other end, it's not a disaster:)

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 14/04/2017 21:21

Ps Email the hotel and ask if you are worrying!

Lepetitmarsellais · 14/04/2017 21:25

1 and 3 year olds don't eat that much, surely?

If you can carry crisps and chocolate then I'm not sure why that can't extend to some sandwiches.

What I'd do though is contact the hotel for advice. Maybe you could order a pizza?

2017SoFarSoGood · 14/04/2017 21:28

Cabbage you really don't have to worry about this. It will all be marvelous, just as you have planned. Feed the kids on the plane or in the airport or at the hotel (if you let them know you will arrive after meal time) - it will work out.

Please don't let this ruin your excitement. It will be lovely. Grin

SolomanDaisy · 14/04/2017 21:30

Every all inclusive I've been to has had an arrangement for this. There'll be sandwiches behind the bar or something. Just ask the hotel.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 14/04/2017 21:33

If its all inclusive they will normally have something for late arrivals even if its juat sandwiches etc. Or take a packed tea on the plan to eat either on the plane or on the transfer bus. You are definitely overthinking this and things like bedtimes tend to go out the window on holidays so I wouldnt worry about that.

Giddyaunt18 · 14/04/2017 21:35

One day having a picnic tea will be fine, just pack some sandwiches, bananas act and they will be full and happy until breakfast. Have a lovely holiday.

HeddaGarbled · 14/04/2017 21:35

We recently travelled with Thomsons, were late due to a delayed flight and the hotel left cold plates, bread rolls and a bottle of water out on a table in the restaurant for us. There were about 3 tables set up near the entrance, no staff. I think they are used to catering for late flights on this sort of holiday.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/04/2017 21:36

Just take sandwiches, it really isn't a disaster. Do make sure you have good travel insurance in place though, incase of a real disaster!

Justmuddlingalong · 14/04/2017 21:41

Look up the hotel's website, it should have info about mealtimes. As PP's have said there's usually snacks, soup etc available for guests arriving late on. And stop stressing. After saving for 6 years, look forward to your holiday and don't let minor inconveniences spoil it.
