Should DD break her Lent chocolate abstinence?

DD 10 would like the verdict of the mumsnet jury about her dilemma. She decided to give up chocolate for Lent as she absolutely loves it but recognises that a lot is not good for her.
She's been brilliant and resisted multiple temptations. She's now remembered that her birthday falls righ in the middle of Lent.
So can she break her abstinence for that one day? What do you think?

Sundays are not included, because Sundays are a day of penance anyway.

I did wonder why Kent should be exempt Hmm

I broke mine day 1 by being so ridiculously tired not realising that I was eating a chocolate biscuit. Have been very good since!

It's your birthday - for goodness sake lass gobble up some chocolate! Then go back to trying to do without it if you must, but I have to say that it is far better to get some sort of balance - all or nothing is a bit OTT and unhelpful. Why not decide on a choc limit for a while (never mind lent FGS) and try to stick to that.

do it. If she is giving up something as a way of self control she can do it anytime not Lent, she isn't Christian so it won't matter,

She's not obsessed with chocolate but I think she'd just like to be able to say that she gave it up for Lent and lasted it all the way through.

I'm mixed because it isn't religious and she has been very good. In the end I say no. It's the really hard days when you are actually learning the self control- the days you crave whatever it is because you've had a really bad day and would normally treat yourself, or when there is a celebration. On the other days there is temptation but it's easier to resist. It also makes that first taste/activity at Easter that much more special.
