Refund my friend the money?

I know a woman. She's very nice. We've never socialised, but always chat at the school gates. Over the last few years she's often handed down a bag of her daughters old clothes for my youngest. Nice dresses and beach stuff.

I listed my bike for sale for 50quid. She saw it advertised and said she'd like it. When she collected it i only charged her 40. She arrived with another little bag of clothes for 4yo.

Now i feel a right tight git for charging her at all. I think I'm going to pass the 40 back to her. I feel like the bike doesn't even come close to the value of all the clothes she's given us.

Wwyd?

Offer her £20?

Isadora2007 · 11/01/2017 12:16

Or Be honest and just say what you said here and give her it all back.

What I would do depends on whether I could do with the bike
Money probably.

If you need the money keep it.

Or you can give some of it back as it sounds like she has helped you out

ICanCountToOneHundred · 11/01/2017 12:18

I would have given her the bike, just contact her and say as a token of my thanks for all the clothes you have given us I would like to give you the money back.

Yes. I'll give the money back with a note. I'll do it tomorrow. I'll feel better for it I think.

But it's a different situation, isn't it? You advertised the bike at a particular price, she happened to want to buy it. Because she is a friend and has done you a favour (the clothes), you offered her a 20% reduction on price of bike. I think you're over thinking it! She was happy to pay 50, ended up paying less, I'd be a bit baffled if you tried to refund me the rest!

Also, it's NICE to be able to pass kids clothes on and know they are going to be used, not end up in landfill, etc. And even nicer to free up wardrobe space when you've had a clear out!

BusterGonad · 11/01/2017 12:29

I would do what you think is right, if the clothes have been a huge help and you don't need the bike money then give it back, if on the other hand £40 is a lot and you really need that money then keep it as I'm sure she'll understand.

KenzieBoosMummy · 12/01/2017 11:26

I wouldn't give her the money back, I would buy her a gift in return for the clothes. Maybe get her a bottle of Champagne/Prosecco & some flowers. So then the bike is entirely separate x Plus the gifts will cost less than £40....presumably anyway! X

Well technically no but I would feel really weird abput that & give her the bike
