What to buy our male colleague for new baby?

It's a girl. His lovely DP is not a first time parent but he is.

We're going to club together. I'm aiming at 50 quid.
What should we get for all of them but a new Dad thing too?

I've only been a Mum in this situation so endless babygros were much appreciated.

I'm going to buy a newspaper and The Beano on the day she is born but an 'emergency Dad's hamper' doesn't quite cut it.

Let's sum it up then:

Vouchers and peripheries: baby gro card, flowers, chocolates, cigar(?)

Not a new Audi.

I always give a gift to man or woman but compulsory collections always bring out the office politics so the fewer the better

I think it's nice to get a dad to be a present. The most memorable one was getting our brand director a branded (with our organisation's logo) babygro. Then when he named his son after his favourite band... A baby gro with one of their albumn covers on it.

Silly pressies, but showed him we were thinking of him.

Ooh just thought, do you know what music the new dad is into? With dc3 we've found the rockabye baby CDs, which are basically baby lullabies of favourite rock bands, eg ACDC, guns n roses, fleetwood Mac, Metallica etc (pretty sure they do the stones, Beatles, plus more recent stuff too). They've made a great change at bedtime this time round for us from baby Einstein! Dcs 1&2 prefer them as well!

Just thought I'd mention, given that you specifically seem to want to gear part of the gift to the dad as your colleague. Obviously only relevant if he's a music man! Try Amazon for rockabye baby +[band name].

H & M used to do organic baby gro two packs one said "I heart daddy" the other said "I heart mummy"

Rockabye baby + band name is too ridiculous but it works!

Looked up 'Casey Jones' by the Grateful Dead. I used to play that to my baby before he was born. He's off playing in the band tonight all of 23.

My husband's work gave us vouchers for both our babies when they were born. And when we got married.

This is one of those sort of intrinsic sexism things, I immediately started thinking of "manly" things then thought hang on a minute no. If this were a woman she'd get clothes and nappies and baby toys, why should a man get something different? I'm off to have a word with myself.

One of the men in my team is just back from paternity leave and we got him a card and some very cute baby clothes for his new daughter. He seemed very pleased.

I don't see why baby gros would be less appropriate for a dad than a mum.

When I was looking for Father's Day gifts I found several sets of paired tshirts/baby vests. That might be a fun thing for both of them. I chose the tired/not tired pair...
