DH's best friend is a drink driver

DH met his best friend for drinks on Sunday afternoon. As we pulled into the pub car park we spotted his friend's car parked. When I picked up DH 4 hours later I spotted his friend's car hurtling down the road towards his house. I had my baby and toddler in the car so was absolutely livid that I came so near to a drink driver with my precious babies in the car. DH's friend had told DH his taxi had arrived and they had both had quite a lot to drink in that time. I've sent the friend a snotty message (no reply) and since driven past to make a note of his car registration. What do I do next? Should I do anything else? I'm not sure when he will be going to that pub again but I am convinced that he will do it again as it's only a mile from his home. He lives with his mum (he's 41), do I ring and tell her?

Do you think he does this regularly or could it have been a one off?

If it was a one off there's nothing that can be done now. Keep a note of the registration so you can use it in future.

If there is another occasion where you know he's drinking, you can call the police anonymously and they can wait for him to leave the pub then stop him as he drives off.

Thanks Dizzy, just spoke to my sister about it too. He used to get a lift home from me but now we have 2 babies there's no room in our car. He lives about a mile from the pub and has nobody that would pick him up so my guess is that he is doing it every time. I just can't see that he drives there, gets a taxi home and then a taxi back the next day to pick his car up. I have his reg number now, I will see if my DH will cooperate and tell me when his friend has his nights off and therefore likely to be in the pub.

Hang on...He lives a ten minute walk from the pub?!!

Yup, it's a dark country road with no pavement and a 60mph road so no doubt he doesn't want to risk it, that's another reason why I'm so outraged that he's dashing down that road in his car after a skinful, with my kids heading towards him!
