This is very very shallow of me, I don't respect myself but Amal Clooney, has she eaten anything since last year?

There is something horrible the way she was catapulted into fame, it must be shocking and you can forgive her wanting to look her best, but oh lordy she looks tiny now.

She was fine just being gorgeous and brilliant and selfish old George had to acquire her for his greater glory. I have a lot of respect for her but I wish our society didn't make women feel this kind of pressure.

Ah so now she's not 'a real woman' - this is pure slender-shaming bingo.

Got my pen out.

OllyBJolly · 04/07/2015 11:24

None of you know but so quick to judge.

I'm naturally slim. I get very busy, or stressed, or even a common cold, and the weight drops off me. I know it's not a good look but I have way too many more important and exciting things in my life to obsess about a few pounds either way. And when you're 9st - which I am, it is only a few pounds loss that makes me look scrawny.

FFS, myob.

Raasay · 04/07/2015 11:24

SirChenjin I completely agree, the pressure in women to be very thin is not fine.

I am uncomfortable with a thread targeting a particular woman though.

Isn't this thread which in addition to her weight so far has offered opinions on:
Who her friends should be
How she should smile
Her career
Which name she should use

Is just as bad?

Isn't this thread also trying to hold her to some arbitrary standard?

SirChenjin · 04/07/2015 11:25

You're confusing super skinny with slender.

Got my pen out too - and just made my first cross.

Lucked · 04/07/2015 11:25

I agree it's her choice. Also she has always been very slim, I haven't ever seen a photo of her otherwise.

Ubik1 · 04/07/2015 11:26

which is ridiculous, 'cos I'd have done it for 20 quid and a Turkish Delight.

Grin

You wonder what her life is really like, don't you

Raasay · 04/07/2015 11:26

And now her marriage is a sham?

Lovely, just lovely.

Go sisters. Hmm

TerryTheGreenHorse · 04/07/2015 11:29

Yeah she's probably as miserable as sin, with her successful legal career and her recent marriage to an a list celeb.

Poor old Amal.

charity single anyone?

I'll work on the lyrics.

AltogetherAndrews · 04/07/2015 11:29

If you know it is shallow, exercise some self restraint, and don't start a thread discussing the weight of a woman.

SirChenjin · 04/07/2015 11:30

I take your point Raasay - I can't speak for the other posters obviously, but I suppose because Amal is in the spotlight a lot, it's very noticeable that she has gone from a slim, tall woman to someone who is super skinny. As someone upthread said she could be ill - but if she's not, and we have created the image of the ideal body shape as one that looks like you're ill, then we have to question why this has happened and what we can do to stop it.

Ubik1 · 04/07/2015 11:31

"Free eee Amal"

I'm sure Amal will not lose sleep over this thread

Raasay · 04/07/2015 11:33

SirChenjin

So start a general thread about that issue. Not a thread which is basically pulling every aspect of the poor woman's life apart.

How would any if you feel if she was reading the thread? She's a real person not just an object for gossip fodder.

Your cheeks should all be burning.

SirChenjin · 04/07/2015 11:34

Upper or lower Raasay?

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 04/07/2015 11:36

It's a shame for her that she feels the pressure to be so unhealthily thin. She looked fine before, now she looks unwell.

SquirrelChaser · 04/07/2015 11:36

Terry, please not I blamed the media for labelling her Clooney, not Amal herself.

Raasay · 04/07/2015 11:38

SirChenjin. Upper I think. Grin

I don't support corporal punishment.

TerryTheGreenHorse · 04/07/2015 11:39

I don't even see much of her and George in the media to be perfectly honest, I don't know what all the fuss is about.

SirChenjin · 04/07/2015 11:39

I'm glad to hear it Grin

Jaccuse · 04/07/2015 11:40

Grin @ Ubik1

So much thinly-veiled envy here it's palpable.

Jaccuse · 04/07/2015 11:41

And TTGH

TerryTheGreenHorse · 04/07/2015 11:41

This is how all the "thin" threats start though, by all means have a conversation about pressure to be thin but to use a specific person as an example and then start with then "poor Amal" "poor Kate" is not really making anyone that much better is it?

Or at least start a thread and be honest and have a good gossip about someone's body shape, becasue that's what it is really.

sticks2 · 04/07/2015 12:01

There's nothing nasty or distasteful about this thread.

What's distasteful are the comments like 'leave the woman alone' 'she's an adult' 'i'd love to have her willpower'

For god's sake, these women are stick insects. They don't eat. They take drugs to be that thin.

Then they're celebrated in the media for being super skinny, making ordinary women feel bad about themselves. Contributing to the high level of eating disorders among ever younger girls.

It's collusion between the media and the fashion world and NOTHING to do with being naturally slim.

Agree with you SirChenjin

Mistlewoeandwhine · 04/07/2015 12:06

Probably lack of sex de to being George's beard.

bookishandblondish · 04/07/2015 12:08

I don't think the media would had any influence on her chambers, where she is referred to as Amal Clooney in the list of barristers. So I assume that she will have made that choice herself.

Raveismyera · 04/07/2015 12:10

I know someone who works with her and from what's she's said she is a very good junior barrister. No doubt she has a wonderful career but the way people talk it's as though she'd put Cherie Blair to shame.

Anyway that aside I like a bit of skinny but she'd look better a stone bigger. I can't imagine how she must look IRL when the camera makes her look so tiny
