Mumsnet...

Ok so been on mumsnet for a whole month now. I must say I'm a little put off by how rude some folk can be on some of these threads. However I have found it to be, mostly, very helpful. What I want to know, after reading some posts where some poor newbie like myself was ripped to shreds, is what is mumsnet etiquette? So far I have read that calling other ladies 'hun' is frowned upon (it's ok, I'm from Glasgow it means something entirely different here anyway) and sending kisses at the end of a message isn't really 'cool'. What else should I know before posting any more threads? (xx)

Jo we should start our own forum where everyone has their name and numbers for usernames and can send each other kisses and use bad grammar

This site already exists - its called NetMums

Honestly though, as long as you are armed with opinions and a sense of humour, MN is a wonderful place. I just avoid the really nasty threads...(see what I did thereWink) there's loads of good stuff as well

LOL isn't really acceptable by anyone beyond their teens, is it? Use Grin instead.

As a mum of nearly 40...tend not to give two hoots what people think of me, anyway but I have to say...all you ladies on here are giving great advice!

...& to be honest, on here mainly for a bit of lighthearted chat - I'll leave the heavy stuff to the others!

Thanks for the welcome.

Lweji · 04/06/2015 23:51

Good god woman, drop the lols if your are not actually loling. What are the Grin for??? Poor MNHQ give us these smileys to be used and appreciated.

Proper lol is ok, if you don't use lol (and lol has never been lots of love in the interweb, btw).

Steph1502 · 04/06/2015 23:52

Oh Christ... (Done 4 but deleted 1, I'm getting better) So if I use the red wine glass I'm not saying aaaaah relaxing with a glass of red wine. I'm actually saying I have my period and am catching it in a cup?

So tempted to say LOL, Steph!Grin

Apologies, ladies...

ErrolTheDragon · 04/06/2015 23:59

The Biscuit has history. It derives from the time when Gordon Brown was on a web chat, was asked what his favourite biccie was and he refused to say.

Bear is another oddity (bet pombear doesn't display on mobile devices, or Dragon - I hate missing emoticons, that probably makes no sense if you're not on a proper computer)
