Chocolate cookie related moral dilemma.

I lay myself before the mumsnet jury. Please be gentle.

On Tuesday 4 chocolate cookies were delivered as part of the grocery shop. My 3dc didn't eat them because they were too full after I insisted they eat fruit first (Good mum emoticon). Now they've gone to bed and I've remembered them. The packet says best before 23rd April. So if they eat them tomorrow strictly speaking that wouldn't be before the 23rd.

So my question is what wound you do? Do I save them one each and risk them having the experience of eating stale cookies. Or do I eat them all myself and hide the evidence?

Eat one .... the nibble the edges off the other 3

Grin You will be sick if you eat for cookies.

Give them a cookie each tomorrow, and buy yourself a tiger loaf to make up for it!

Out of date cookies are toxic. You need to get rid of them tonight so they're not potentially at risk tomorrow.

Eat them!

ThingummyJigg · 22/04/2015 21:27

You are obviously a TERRIBLE mother if you give your children cookies. Probably there's e-numbers and sugar and dead squirrels and polonium in them. And on the stroke of midnight, they will not longer be best before. Would you give your babies second best, would you, WOULD YOU?

I say, selflessly eat them yourself, and if you don't drop down dead, buy some for the children next week.

Repeat. Wink

I fail to see how this is a dilemma at all.

How can you even consider giving your children out of date cookies that may harm their health? Not to mention the sugar content!

No, you must get rid of all the cookies immediately, the only safe way to do this is of course to eat them yourself.

I'm heartened to read that you are also selfless mummy's like me. Always putting the needs of your children before even your own health. I have eaten mine and it was starting to taste stale already. I will try another just to be sure. I will then have the dilemma of how to split two cookies between 3 children. Also DH is on his way home. This adds the potential of having to share with him!!!

I never even realised all the toxic ingredients in chocolate cookies. Squirrels?!! Will no one think of the children?!

The plot thickens. DH has returned with burgers!!! What underhand strategy is this? Is he trying to get his hands on the 2 remaining cookies?

You could freeze them. But perhaps that's not the helpful advice you needed

charliesweb · 22/04/2015 22:27

Freeze them??!!! How can I be sure they haven't been frozen before? Isn't very dangerous to freeze food twice (clutching at straws).

Regarding DH should I LTB? He clearly has something to hide if he's bring home gifts of fast food and he's obviously after the cookies.
