Pregnant Teachers

I'm a Teacher on maternity leave and have spent a lot, possibly too much time reflecting on my role as a Teacher when I was pregnant. In many ways, my job didn't allow for the sickly, roller coaster pregnancy I experienced. I want to reach out to other pregnant Teachers so they know they're not alone. I googled and googled to find support, to meet other pregnant and struggling Teachers but I only found a few.Too many Teachers live their jobs and feel bad for taking time off for illness because of the increased workload they face on return and because of the increased workload on their colleagues.what's the answer? I don't know. But finding a solution to the problem appears almost impossible.
Hopefully, my blog can help someone else who is struggling with the juggling act of teaching and pregnancy.

I'm a teacher and I struggled with some of the things you did. In fact, one of my pupils guessed before any of my colleagues that I was pregnant because I was wearing those sea band things to work and "my mum wore those when she was pregnant. Miss, you're not pregnant are you? Miss?! You are aren't you?!" It was all i could do not to throw up on her in response.

The thing is, you could replace 'teacher' with 'doctor', 'cleaner', 'receptionist' (or any other role) in most of your op and have it mean the same. We're not unique. Lots of pregnant women struggle (or don't!) regardless of their job.

The blog itself obviously covers more specific teachery things, but then you get the opposite problem: we are all unique! Some women (& teachers) sail through pregnancy and others don't.

The key is surely to treat all pregnant women with compassion, regardless of their role?

I hear you Atruth- I have friends who are pregnant and face different challenges everyday with their pregnancies and work roles. Many are nurses and I listen to their battles with shock and empathy. Their battles are different to mine however, so I can only really write about the ones specific to me. I completely appreciate and empathise that pregnant women struggle in different ways, regardless of job role and sometimes irrespective of having any job.
I can only really draw focus on my own experience and the impact it had on my work and hopefully the blog can help someone out there in a similar boat :)
