I need a hobby

I don't have a lot of spare time but I need a hobby of some sort or I just sit on my arse and watch TV. Evening classes are out and I don't fancy studying. Any ideas welcome?

Take up an instrument?

I highly recommend an instrument.
You can pick up cheap guitars all over and once you get good you can impress people with your strumtastic talents.
YouTube is a brilliant resource for learning basic techniques on most instruments. you can get so many musical learning resources free online that you used to have to pay for.

Writing? I write all sorts of rubbish stuff, and find it very therapeutic. Poetry, novels, keeping a diary or blog. It requires a certain amount of thinking but not too much, and I find it great in the evenings, well from about 9pm til 11ish.
Maybe this isn't really a hobby, I don't know.
Perhaps you could pick up a couple of books on say, watercolour painting, and not study, but learn the art to it.
I definitely won't suggest loom banding which I didn't privately take up, using my dds boards and bands when she went to bed Grin

I make my own jewellery and beaded ornaments for Christmas, I sew, do needle-felting and loads of other crafts - altered books, book sculpture, decoupage all sorts of things...

Family history - it will mop up all your spare time, then quite a lot of your non-spare time, then the time when you should be sleeping/cooking/eating - although you have to be careful about not getting obsessive.

What about joining your local WI?

You'll be able to try lots of new things or help out with local causes/charities, make new friends and possibly through them find things to do.
