Would you eat it?

Let me start by saying MIL is a gem and I love her to bits. So this is not one of 'those' threads!

However, sometimes, her hygiene can be a bit...odd. At Christmas she doesn't put her turkey in the fridge, it stays on the side until the day after Boxing Day, when any leftovers are thrown away. If she makes a meat pie, that doesn't go in the fridge either - it sits in a cupboard.

The other week DH came home from her house with some meat dishes she had cooked for us. Very sweet of her - she has a heart of gold. It is a 4-hour journey and he likes to have his car pretty warm, though. The dishes were warm when he gave them to me but I don't know if this is because they had been recently cooked and were still cooling down. I put them in the freezer. They are currently sitting there until he mentions them again!

I would absolutely hate to offend him, but would you eat those dishes (they are various mince dishes) or not?

No way. In my job I get an eye to eye view with some horrible bacteria. File these in your food recycling so at least you feel a bit better about it as you have been eco friendly in doing this small act! Anything that potentially has bacteria in it such as meat that has had the luxury of warmth and time to reproduce should never be put in or near a mouth. Especially as she is not there to know whether you have eaten it or not, say thanks and bin it. I get given veggies by my neighbour but her son empties the septic tank onto the raised beds once a year. This would account for the enormous proportions of the said veg but would I eat it? would I fuck!

No I would leave them in the freezer a long time then tell dh that they've probably gone off now, what a shame, then throw them out.

I've known people have problems with food poisoning for years.

Thanks - I know you are both right; I am just a little bit worried about how to 'disappear' them without my DH finding out or getting upset! (Unless I somehow make replacements on a day off and freeze those!!!!)

I would definitely not eat them but just wanted to check I was not alone in that!
