Wedding abroad…no kids allowed!

Hi, how soon is too soon to leave my baby to go to a wedding abroad? Two of mine and my husbands closest friends are getting married abroad next April 2015 (my husband and the groom are soldiers and have been through a lot together and myself and the bride have supported each other through many years of service tours so it means a lot for us to be there). My little boy will be almost 11months old at the time of the wedding. The wedding is a no kiddies event and my husband and I are considering going to the wedding for 3-4nights, leaving our boy with grandparents. The reason I ask for your opions is that I'm not sure if it's the right thing to be doing. Any help / advice / opinions appreciated. Thank you :)

It depends how hands on the grandparents have been. If they regularly look after your DC at least overnight, then perhaps.

You may be better to take your baby, and bring along your mother or MIL to baby sit, if they are willing, or try to arrange local babysitting. (e.g. the hotel may supply a service, or the bride and groom may know someone who could do it - older teenage child of a guest, or the like.)

If the GPs are happy to do this, and you are confident about how they will look after him, I don't see any problem at all.

It's absolute fine to do this as long as your happy they can cope.

I've gone away for a weekend back when I only had one and people offered.

No problem at all.

Is he used to his grandparents looking after him? If so I think it's fine even if you only manage a couple of nights.

WalkingWolf · 09/10/2014 15:38

If he hasn't stayed at their house before you might want to let him stay one night before you go so he (and his grandparents) can get used to it.

But if everyone's happy with the arrangement then I don't see any problem. Smile

We went to Ireland for a child free wedding when dc1 was 13 months, he loved being spoilt by nanna and grandad, mind you they did look a tad tired when we got home :) (were away 3 nights).

If you think you would be worried or unable to cope without baby, which I know I would have been then take baby with you.

You could look at local baby sitter cm take a relative with you to baby sit.

Didnt you start anothrr thread about this yesterday?

Branleuse · 09/10/2014 15:59

id go, that would be fine

I have an 11mo at the moment. He wouldn't cope with being left overnight let alone for several days. He used to be a very amenable baby but is in the midst of separation anxiety hell.

Now, other babies would be absolutely fine, either because they'd have had sleepovers several times before and be comfortable being cared for by their grandparents, or just not getting sep anx and being cool with new situations.

And you don't know what sort you'd get. I simply wouldn't enjoy a break away if I thought he would be miserable - so I wouldn't want to commit myself six months in advance.
