Hotel showing cheaper

So - booked a hotel last month for 2 night stay next week. Booked room at £140/night B&B.

Just noticed now on their website they have a special offer which would mean we could get DBB for £155/night.

I called to see if we could transfer to the offer only to be told we couldn't. Fair enough (a bit miffed).

Then I looked online to see how much the rooms were showing as - and its now down to £115/night B&B.

Should I cancel the original booking and rebook under my OH's name? Or should I call the hotel up and ask for the cheaper price??

Hotels routinely do this, based on demand and time until the booking date. They won't normally let you transfer to a lower tariff just because it was advertised after you booked. (Similar to the way artiness sell tickets.) You could try asking them, but be prepared for a no.

If it were me and I could cancel without penalty and then re-book in another name then I would do that.

What is their cancelation policy. If it is free to cancel then rebook under partners email so you have the room secured (this may have be on a non refundable basis due to special price). Then cancel first room.

Hotels know this happen. If it was me I would just book new room in my own name but use DH's name if it makes you feel more comfortable.

D'oh! Similar to the way airlines sell tickets. Wretched autocorrect.

Thanks all - I ended up getting OH to book in his name, and then I cancelled my booking.

There was no penalty for cancelling unless it was within 24 hours.
