Go on holiday during school trip?

ds is going on an activity trip with school soon, he's 9.
I will be over in europe with work on the same days. Work have just offered for dh to come too as it's a function thing. We would leave after dropping ds off and be back by lunchtime on the day he returns at teatime.

So -
If ds is suddenly ill or injured a parent needs to be available. My mum lives a bit further away but could be the on call parent.

Would you go??

I would! So long as your mum is ok with that obvs. Enjoy your trip :)

scaevola · 12/06/2014 13:53

Yes.

Just make sure you leave your DM with a letter making it clear she is in loco parentis and can make decisions, including medical ones, icw your DS and send a second copy to the school.

Is it very wrong of me that I'd said yes, go before I even got to the bit about the on call parent? Blush

As you can tell, I'd go in a heartbeat.

I'd go, I'd be perfectly happy with the back-up you've described.

Have a great time!

OddFodd · 12/06/2014 14:01

Surely that's the ideal time to go on a holiday?

lljkk · 12/06/2014 14:02

AS long as you know your child is low risk for having health or behaviour problems, why not?

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/06/2014 14:03

Go. Emergency is accounted for if your mum is available.

MrsMcEnroe · 12/06/2014 14:03

Oh hell yes, I'd go like a shot!!

(We have NO family to help out in situations like this but if we did I would soooo do this).

Go, and have a lovely time!

It's about the emergency mum isn't it.
I'll talk to her tonight.....

PeterParker I actually thought of it before I thought of emergency backup, the guilt made me doubt we should do it!!!

Thanks everyone :D

If your mum can't do it, ask a mate... I have been emergency person for a friend's child before when they were on a trip and she was away. Obviously I didn't have to do anything at all as it turned out but it meant she could go away.
