If you was 16 and looking for summer job

Where would you go to hand in CV.
My dd is desperate for summer job after finishing GCSEs but will be going back to school in September. Apart from play schemes is there anywhere that would take on 16 year old just for summer holidays?

Lots of good ideas here but be aware that it is far more difficult than it used to be.

I live in a holiday area and a lot of the jobs that used to be done by students are now done by immigrants who often work more than one job. My DD had a waitressing job for a short time and the other waitress was a young Polish woman who worked an early shift at a hotel doing breakfasts then did some cleaning at a local business and waitressed in the evening. A generation ago that would have been 3 student jobs But the plus for employers is that these workers can do longer than just school or uni holidays so can work the full "season" and, in many cases, apparently do a better job.

When I was 16 I had no trouble finding work in cafes etc during the holidays. It took a few places before finding one that would pay me properly though ... beware of places that offer to trial your daughter without pay. That's how many of them rely on hiring extra workers during holidays at no cost to them! As soon as your trial is up, they will let you go over some trivial matter (mine was a teaspoon on the far side of the teacup instead of closest side to customer) and take on another teen for a 'trial' period. Hmm Would she consider doing aged care work?

Cafes, shops etc are a good bet, as are the supermarkets as some will take on extra staff to cover holidays, especially if you are in a touristy area. Hotels as well, especially smaller, guest house types, will be looking for housekeeping staff as well as waitresses.

I grew up near a golf course that hosts the open, every summer half my school (boys and girls) used to go out there and caddy. Don't think they were paid officially but made a killing with tips , despite knowing bigger all about golf. might be an idea if you have a course near you?
