I did it in Asda this afternoon. I have shopped 3 times this week. In 3 different shops.

I did put the divider after me down perpendicular to my shopping. I noticed that a man came with a trolley and muttered to his friend and then walked off. Perhaps they thought the checkout was closing??

I also tried this in asda today. The man who came after me just turned it round and started putting his shopping on the conveyor belt.

This thread is a brilliant idea, makes it seem fun to pop out and get a couple of things which is what I seem to spend all week doing DH does the main shop and always forgets stuff!
I tried it in lidl today old man in front of me young couple behind but wasn't too busy, the old man turned it back the right way and the young couple didn't even notice but they started loading up the conveyor belt with their shopping when I hadn't finished so serves them right if they ran out of space

Wouldn't do it if I saw any good friends in the shop but kind of hoping it'll out me to a random mnetter just for the fun of it, don't have a scarf or eat pombears never outed myself yet....

Am laughing at my half hearted shopping.

Panty liners. Reduced price mushrooms. Cock Soup- bought purely for comedy value for DH!

I think laying the divider this direction is going to become THE way to do it soon. ;)

MamaPizza · 15/05/2014 19:33

I did it in Aldi today.

Youngish lady stood by the end, looked confused, looked at us and started to leave to the next checkout. Then one of the store assistants told her our checkout was open so she put her stuff behind our special barrier. DH was embarrassed, I acted nonchalant and was laughing inside a lot.

Next time I shall try a triangle Grin

Excuse the pic quality / angle, was trying to take it without being obvious.

I wanted to try this in Tesco today, but it was deserted. Several tills open with no customers there, so when I unloaded my shopping, the operator started scanning and bagging my things right away and I didn't get the chance to use the divider at all!

Would have been pointless anyway, since there were no other shoppers to come along after me. :(

I will try again next week.

Elysianfields · 15/05/2014 20:21

I did it this evening in Aldi. The second it hit the conveyor the woman behind grabbed it and turned it the conventional way. I couldn't stop giggling throughout the whole thing. I think she thought I was some kind of mad woman.

My dp was very confused and feigned not understanding. I did clearly explain what I had done on our walk home.....

DownstairsMixUp · 15/05/2014 20:34

I did it in Morrison's today but I only had a basket of stuff. Put it length ways and the old man behind just turned it round the right way (quite briskly) and gave me a look. I quickly turned it back round and he just looked at me like I was odd and loaded his stuff on with it still length ways. :( Was a bit boring. Will try it next on my big shop and possibly on a saturday. Grin

starfishmummy · 16/05/2014 13:10

I must remember to remind DH to do it tomorrow in the Co-op.
Not sure if he will take a picture though!!

BuzzardBird · 16/05/2014 16:45

I did it in Aldi today which confused the fuck out of the woman behind me as she had already put one down in the conventional manner. She just left it there as I obviously have the look of someone who would brawl with her over the kinder eggs if she moved it Grin

Tabby1963 · 17/05/2014 10:11

I was in my local co-op yesterday and when I got to the checkout there were no other customers there but the divider had been put down in the long position already on the conveyor belt, which threw me I must admit. I put my shopping behind it but unfortunately no-one else came behind me in the queue.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 18/05/2014 06:21

I did it in Sainsbury's and the cachier reachwr over and turned it around.

Fluffeh · 18/05/2014 06:27

I did it in Aldi and they closed the checkout behind me :(.
I did it in sainsburys and the woman behind me laughed, gave me a knowing look and just loaded her shopping on. So own up, which of you was behind me in sainsburys?

MrsDiesel · 18/05/2014 10:27

This experiment has taken on a life of its own.

Great Grin

Hairylegs47 · 18/05/2014 10:37

Did this twice in Aldi today, the first time, the woman started putting her shopping on and then turned it the right way. The second time, the guy said - in a very thick Brummie accent - 'you can't do that, it's the wrong way'.
Me: 'It's ok, I like it that way'
Him:'No, it's wrong'
He was getting a bit upset, so I let him turn it back. I thought he was SN and felt a bit bad.
My DS2 - 30 yrold, was a bit Confused, I told him it was my little rebellion.
I'll be doing it back in Saudi at every opportunity from now on!
I shall report the reaction from there in the days to come.

How sad am I Grin

flatbellyfella · 18/05/2014 13:33

A man came up behind me today in Aldi, started loading his bits & pieces & the first thing, a bottle of whiskey was pushed up in to my shopping,so I failed you all & promptly put space bar back in proper place & pushed whiskey away.Sad

TheannamoLeelu · 18/05/2014 14:11

I braved it, felt so wrong, but so...right! I couldn't bring myself to watch the reaction of the woman behind me but when I looked back she'd put it back the conventional way. I was surprised as she looked like a MNer too. No doubt she'll check this thread later & realise the error of her ways

EvilTwins · 18/05/2014 14:14

I did it in Waitrose. The young checkout assistant didn't bat an eyelid. Made me wonder if she's seen it countless times before.

FruVikingessOla · 18/05/2014 15:24

, flatbellyfella; you'll have to try again next time Wink

BuzzardBird · 18/05/2014 16:42

I also did it in Sainsbury yesterday and the woman behind me looked at it and then went to another till! Shock

BadRoly · 18/05/2014 16:45

I've been joining in and got none Mumsnetters doing it too Grin

It is funny! Only done it in Sainsburys and Asda so far, not sure I'm brave enough to have a go in Lidl yet...

FruVikingessOla · 18/05/2014 16:49

I'm rather intrigued by this comment : "I'll be doing it back in Saudi at every opportunity from now on!" from Hairylegs47 Confused
