Letting Agents dishonest costs

I rent my flat through a letting agent.

My bathroom leaked and the plumber (the letting agent sent round) said the leak was from the shower.

When the plumber returned to mend the shower, he found there was nothing wrong with it at all and in actual fact the leak was coming from faulty washer is in the bathroom taps.

I said to go ahead and replace the washes. I was expecting a bill for around 20 or £30, but I'm horrified to find it is just under £100. The description states "replace taps" but they haven't been replaced.

I am fuming about this, the letting agents have been hopeless from start to finish in terms of managing repairs on the property. And this is the final straw.

I will be terminating my contract with them, but meanwhile I want to not let them get away with this obscene amount. I don't know if there is some sort of governing body for letting agents, but I'm not really sure what to do so thought I would ask ...what would YOU do?

a bill for 20-30 from a plumber?

I rent a house and have never been charged for any repairs that have been needed (have been here nearly 4 years so there have been some). I would need to pay if it were something I had done but I can't see how you're liable for faulty washers.

I thought the op was a landlord?

Yes I am! And while I expect to pay for a washer f it's causing a leak, I find it unacceptable for the letting agent to bill me almost 100 pounds for "replacement taps" when all they have actual done is change washers!

Its more reasonable than 100 pounds 'admin fee' for sending a letter or whatever ridiculous things they charge tenants for. It would definitely cost upwards of 60 quid to get a plumber to do that, no plumber comes out for 20, 100 does seem on the steep side but did you expect them to do it themselves? Confused But there needs to be a lot more regulation of this 'industry' definitely.

Ask them to give you a copy of the contractors invoice. When a contractor has been in, our letting agent provided us with a copy of his invoice and then added that on to their bill. So we paid them and they paid him but only the amount that the contractor charged. If you are paying them a management fee they cant warrant adding on a admin fee here as well.
