Last August, our neighbours sprayed creosote over our fence...

They did so accidentally, but managed to spray the conservatory incredibly thoroughly, the roof of the children's play house, etc.
they did, after polite persuasion, make an effort to scrub the paint from the conservatory. However, in doing so, they've taken the shine off the white plastic frame and window sills of the conservatory paintwork.
Our neighbours have had builders and repair men over at theirs almost constantly (I kid you not) for the past 5 and a half years. However, they've not dug into their pockets to repair the damage they've done to my meagre garden! I want the rest cleaned off and the shine restored - but not by them and with Cif and a Brillo pad!!!
Every time I see them (its been a year now), I feel such fury as I would never let someone's home be damaged and not sort it out properly!
Rant over.
There have been lots of other neighbour tiffs (eg them putting up a wall against our will and changing their minds about whose it was, having had us pay half for the repair of a dance along the same border). Tired of the whole boring feud. As a result I don't talk to them. Will send husband round to give dates of what and when want sorted out. Just gate living next to such horrible people. No morals!

Do you have photographic evidence? You need to show it to a lawyer I think, and pursuing it will cost you.

Littlefish · 10/08/2013 08:50

I know nothing about it, but I suspect that it may be impossible to restore the shine on your conservatory if it is plastic - what did they use when they were scrubbing?

Mummyoftheyear · 10/08/2013 13:35

They used Cif and a Brillo pad! They said they'd looked it up on the Internet and that this commonly happens and is how people get it off. One of them is a really butch and intimidating barrister. She's to me to f. off before so I'm not inclined to go around debating it and her legal credentials dissuade me from young the legal route, either. Just get pissed off every time I see them... especially since they're always titivating their own house and garden, trimming bush with mini scissors, etc. They constantly have builders and decorators over to their place and can't bear even the slightest aesthetic quirk at their place. I think it's the flagrantly selfish and guilt-free nature that gets me riled most of all. That, and the fact that it took me yonks to save for the playhouse only to have it shat on by creosote!

There is absolutely no chance you will get the shine back then. The surface has basically been scratched.

However, I think that as a whole year has passed since it happened, and you have not done anything formally to try and get them to make amends, then you are just going to have to put up with it.

Crumbledwalnuts · 10/08/2013 20:41

You could take it to small claims if it wasn't so long ago.

LouiseAderyn · 10/08/2013 20:42

Contact your house insurance company - you ought to be covered for this. If you do go down the legal route a lot of insurance companies cover the cost of neighbour disputes up to a certain limit.

I would pursue it - don't be put off by the fact that she is in the legal profession. she still damaged your property and has an obligation to put it right.

Think I will. Thanks for your advice, ladies. Wink
