Report a teacher (2ndary) for talking negatively about an absent disruptive pupil to the rest of the class?

DS reported that he thought it was quite funny that his history teacher said "all we have to do is be kind to XX until he is expelled", clearly suggesting she can't wait till he is. I was Shock.

While I understand from my DS the boy is very disruptive, I can't believe the attitude of the teacher. While it must be hard with some pupils, shouldn't teachers aim for inclusion? What kind of support is this boy getting if this is the attitude of the teachers? And to say this in front of other pupils? Does she need a ticking off and should I report it to school or am I being too sensitive about it?

hmm. i dont know what should be done as i never seem to guess gright with these things but i wouldn't be happy if it was my child being talked about. it's like she is making a joke out him.

That is quite funny. Grin

But agree the boy obviously needs support.

No, it's shit. Can't believe anyone thinks this is acceptable Angry

I had lots of teachers with this sort of dark sense of humour when I was at secondary school. They had just seen it all before I think.

CatchingMockingbirds · 18/12/2012 23:06

That's awful, no teacher should speak about a pupil like that.

Bessie123 · 18/12/2012 23:09

Oh dear Sad

It sounds like the sort of thing the teachers at my old school would have said 25 years ago. Obviously things haven't moved on that much. How unkind.

Nothing wrong with a bit of black humour, kids love it and teachers are real people. But this is just shit practice.

TheFallenMadonna · 18/12/2012 23:15

I might think it. I might do a little dance in the staff room. But in the classroom, I put on my disappointed face whenever I am asked to comment on an excluded student.

Creeping · 19/12/2012 10:07

Black humour at the expense of a pupil is not good.

That she thinks it is bad enough, but hey, teachers are human, I realise that.

She probably thinks this boy's behaviour is not her problem and wants it to go away, but the thing is, it should be her problem. It should be every teacher's problem, at least intention-wise.

Not appropriate. I might bitch about difficult children to my friends and colleagues, but I never comment on them to other pupils. It oversees the bounds of the relationship - children have to trust that you want them to do well, and if they feel that you might turn and say negative things about them, how can they?

cumfy · 20/12/2012 19:09

I think it may have been quite a good way of getting pupils onside.

After all the bottomline is be nice to X.

May well be the best outcome available.

Bessie123 · 20/12/2012 19:54

Sounds to me like the bottom line is actually a very negative statement about the child. Highly inappropriate imo

Find it difficult to believe those were the exact words she used as no one says 'expelled' these days. Are you sure she actually said this?
