If you felt too ill to drive your kids to school?

Just that really. Been hit with the dreaded lurgy and feel bloody crap!!! My DSs' school is a 15 minute drive away and I'm the only one who can drive them there. Drove today but don't really remember it and to be honest, I probably shouldn't have been on the road! What would you do? They are 7 and 4.

Is there anyone who can help out? Not sure what to suggest really, but if I had the lugy, I'd want my kids at school for the day!!

At this time of year, I doubt they will be doing many lessons so its not a huge deal if they don't go in. But, you'd probably get more rest if they were at school. Could you get a cab there and back, or public transport? I guess walking would be totally out of the question if it takes 15 minutes to drive.

I would ring round friends and see if someone else could do the school run for you for a couple of days.... Is there a bus? I know you don't feel great, but a bus trip would be less risky than being behind the wheel of a car....

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 18/12/2012 20:24

Take a taxi. I don't have a car and walk and that's what I would do if I couldn't walk.

helenlynn · 18/12/2012 20:52

Can you beg a favour, or even, though at two half-hour round trips it isn't going to be cheap, afford a taxi (accompanying them still better than driving)?

If you can't come up with any other safe way to get them there, and you really can't safely drive yourself, missing a day of school is probably the least worst thing, although not so great for the duvet day you could probably do with. And if the school are likely to make a big fuss about them being off when they themselves aren't ill, that merits a fib.

Oosp, x-post with kid and TeeElf- must stop opening three dozen tabs and forgetting to refresh when I get to them...

Thanks guys for responding - it's tricky- I would really like them to be at school - they've both had it already and were both off a week with it! There's no-one here who could take them - moved here in the summer and don't know anyone well enough to ask that kind of favour! And strapped for cash so taxi out of te question. Will see how I feel in the morning - just wondered what other people thought and if there was another solution that I'm not thinking of. I'm taking my sorry arse to bed now Hmm shaking and can't get warm Hmm thanks guys

If you have phone numbers for any parents of their friends then I would ask - I'd be happy to do it for someone.

cece · 18/12/2012 21:16

I'd phone a friend who would help me out.

DinosaursOnAnAdventCalender · 18/12/2012 21:20

I would keep them off, put a DVD on, give them a packet of biscuits and a cup of juice and hide under a quilt on the sofa

I would get the bus if I felt utterly crap, plus I wouldn't want to spread the germs around to all the other passengers either.

In hope you feel better soon
