Would you take your children to see Skyfall?

Whilst at the cinema a while ago one of the trailers before the film was for Skyfall (James Bond). My husband and I were quite surprised as this film is only rated PG. Our children 11 and 7 saw the trailer and are both desperate to see it now.
Should I take them to see it? Or do you think it's too violent/inappropriate ?

Saw it yesterday - its really quite violent. Not suitable for 7 year olds IMO. I hate the 12a rating - I remember thinking how terrifying batman begins (first 12 a I saw) would be for kids. Thing is other parents will take theirs and puts pressure on parents.

Our 13yo saw it, our 9 won't be wathching it yet. He might when it comes out on DVD, and he's 10.

Quite violent, little bit of swearing. I wouldn't take my 11 year old daughter to see it.

I saw it yesterday. There's no torture and not a lot of sex (one bit with a random woman who never speaks, one bit in a shower, one nearly-but-never-really-got-going) but there are lots of fights/violence and some swearing (one 'fuck' from M). It's not as horrible as Casino Royale. Javier Bardem is frightening as the baddie, but mostly because of the scary-eyed madness and things he says rather than the things he does.

I guess it depends on how much attention your children would pay to the psychological aspects of the story - if they're just in it for the explosions then they should be fine; if they might dwell on horrible descriptions of pain/fear then I would give it a miss.

hmmmm ... that makes me a very bad parent then :/ guess it depends on whether they have seen the other James Bond's and whether they bothered them or not?

Did you take your children to see it Conorsrockers ? How did they/you find it?
My DC's have seen some of the bonds that have been on the 007 channel recently and they are not at all frightened by it. It's a shame it's a 12a now as it makes me unsure what to do....

DH took DS2 (11 in January) to see it. He loved it.

We're taking ours but I think it'll be a bit boring for the 8 year old tbh, rather than too scary

I haven't seen it, but I think 7 is too young for watching a 12A in the cinema. Watching a DVD at home is very different, and much easier to run away and hide if it gets too scary

That's good to hear . My children are very sensible and mature (only my opinion obviously) so I'm hoping they just take it in their stride and enjoy it for what it is - a good film. I think a lot of the psychological aspects will go straight over their head - heres hoping anyway!!

I have just asked DS2 about that bit recall. He says doesn't remember it.

No way would I be taking my kids to it, but then I'm the sort of person who had to avert my eyes for some of it and felt unsettled by the psychological aspects of it.

But some of it is pretty scary, and scenes like the execution aren't that pleasant.

hoola - we will be taking DS1 (9) without a doubt. I will make a judgement call on the younger two when I see it with him, but there would have to be something pretty appalling for me not to let them see it - they are James Bond mad and very clued up/totally in tune with the fact that it's fantasy, seeing as they laughed their way through Alien vs Predator last night .... they just don't find them scary, they know they are not real - I suppose the fact they are all really into watching the 'how it's made' bits that you get, helps.
I would have blown a stack rather than write that a few years ago - but all children ARE different and whilst I of course do monitor what goes in front of them, it's much different to what I would have imagined before I had them.
