eugusta I haven't had this on Wordpress, but was it a comment on an old post? You are advised to set it to stop comments on old posts after a while as it is more likely to attract spam apparently. Read this in an old book, so maybe Wordpress have configured it automatically?

Thanks Parsley, no it was a new post. I tried the wordpress support faq sheets, but their solution does not work. :( Oh well. I did a new post, and the default setting of allowing comments has kicked in again (thank goodness!) so I am hoping it is an abberation. But I have learned not to leave my laptop open to the Dashboard when DS is about! (I came back from the other room to find him banging keys. Guess I was lucky just to lose the comments!)
