about elderly miserable neighbours

We are council, not that it makes a difference but I don't want to leave anything out.

We moved here 8 months ago.

The woman who lived here previously had been here 50 years, she's now gone into residential care, AFAIK, She had a great relationship with the elderly neighbours next door, they told my DP they visit her in the home.

We are a young family, with DC's ranging from 15-4 yearsold. We are respectful neighbours, telling the kids not to be too loud and not bang early in the mornings.

My 15 yo DS1 has come in from school to get changed and go out with his mates who were waiting outside on the pavement, 2 girls 1 young lad all around 14-15 years old.

I saw the elderly lady out there earlier arms folded and looking quite intimdating in her Stance. So, I went out there and asked if everything was ok, this is how the conversation went

me- everything ok ?
her , they are eating
I look down to see they were eating from a burger box which contained chicken wings, sitting oosite eachother texting on their phones

me - erm yes, ....and ?.. feeling slightly confused
her.- .well they'd better clean up after themselves
me - I'm sure they will they are good girls

I then walked in wondering what all the fuss was about and why she felt the need to go out in the first Place

I've since found out she had gone out there and said 'this ain't a fucking street for a picnic

What the fuck !!! why did she need to go out there unless they were being loud and making a mess and why did she feel the need to swear at them.

I often here the saying 'fucking cat shit, fucking cats, fucking shit all the time' We don't have a cat so I know they aren't talking about us but they seem like miserable cunts

The elderly gentleman hasn't got a good word to say about the chap on the other side to us either saying 'he think he owns the fucking street'. Now we have had NO problems with him whatsoever and he doesn't bother anyone, the most we've heard him say is 'how are you'?

I'm hoping this is just a one off. I doubt it though judging by their 'off the cuff' comments to my DP

The street is VERY quiet so it's not like they sat in the middle of the pavement blocking the right of way

WWYD ?

The only thing I'd do is ask my DD to make sure she doesn't give them anything real to complain about. You'd never hear the end of it!

Other than that, ignore them.

pictish · 12/09/2012 22:18

Just ignore them.

Mintyy · 12/09/2012 22:19

I wouldn't do anything as its a one-off so far.

hmc · 12/09/2012 22:23

Ughhh - they sound horrible. I wouldn't ignore, I would respond in a similar vein as I suspect they may back off if you are assertive

ditavonteesed · 12/09/2012 22:27

my next door neighbour is angry and lovely in equal measures, she chunters about noisy kids and slams her door, then the next minute she will chat to me abou the garden , just ignore would be my advice.

Ignore. and supply your dc friends with more take out and boot out the house into the street I hate it when people view ordinary teenage kids as scroats merely because they are teenagers.

pippop1 · 13/09/2012 01:04

Are they racist? Is them that think they own the street isn't it?

Ignore, ignore. Just smile but don't talk about anything except the weather.

lisaro · 13/09/2012 01:22

Barbecue!!!! All their teenage friends. Having fun.
