Do I withdraw my interest/application?

Long story short, applied to be a parent/classroom helper at local school. School phoned back yesterday to ask me to go in for a chat. Another mum has recently started in a similar role. We used to be friends through our kids, but for last few years she has blanked me, given me funny looks etc. Don't know what issue is as we never fell out only drifted away due to circumstances. She has a reputation for being a bit of a social climber, but who knows.
Now don't know what to do cos don't want to "step on her toes" or be seen to be "copying" her. Battling with the options

  • carry on with application, avoid days she works and forget about it
  • carry on with application, work when suits and just be normal chatty self with her ( I have no issues with her after all)
  • withdraw application
WWYD?

Do you want to be a helper?

If so, carry on with the application.

You're talking about you both helping in school which should be a professional environment. So carry on and work when suits. That's not stepping on anyone's toes.

2nd option, sounds like its her problem not yours. Rise above it and don't let her put you off doing something you want to do.

I know I am being a wimp about this but just want minimal grief.
I usually just rise above things and move on but this seems to be niggling away at me.
Just been chatting to a friend about it and she says "go for it" but be aware that the mum in question is putting it about that she is doing "support for learning" and ASN work. She is not as the school have specialist and employed staff for these roles and only take on classroom assistants in more generalised roles.
