poo all over DS's cot EVERY morning

Hi Everyone,
Please help because this is driving me mad. For about a month now my DS has been waking up in the morning after doing a huge poo. It leaks out of his nappy, usually through his P.Js and sleeping bag (if he's wearing one) and is all over his pillow and blankets. Obviously a lot of washing every day. I've tried bigger thinking maybe he needs more space and smaller ones thinking they are too big and it's falling out, to no avail. Any ideas on how to change either his timing or keeping it safe inside? Thanks. xx

Could you change him before you go to bed without waking him too much so he's having his nappy changed in between going to sleep in his cot and then waking in the morning?

How old? you could try doing a bigger meal at lunchtime and sandwiches at dinner and less milk at bedtime. Have you introduced a new food that is making the poo very runny?

Oh sorry 20 months, I would try changing the nappy at night so its not so wet when he does the poo. But have a look at the diet because poo shouldn't be so runny at that age.

I'd agree with looking at diet, DS is the same age I find potatoes/ bananas tend to lead to more solid poos.

Swim nappy overthe top of normal nappy? Id prob just go and change his nappy at 11pm or whenever you go to bed so the morn one isnt too full.

iccarus · 18/05/2012 16:14

Thanks guys, I'll try the change before I go to bed to see if that makes a difference and think about changing diet if not. It's not like his poo is very runny as such it's quite thick but there is just so much of it and the slightly looser bits seem to seep through. A couple of times there's been a sort of toothpaste consistency all over his legs, poor boy not impressed with being chucked in the bath first thing.

I think I'd try a wrap or washable swim nappy over the disposable, alongside changing him as you go to bed. It sounds like an extraordinary amount of poo to get through pyjama bottoms and a sleeping bag and up to his pillow though - is it liquid soaking through or mush squeezing though gaps?

Whatnamethistime · 18/05/2012 16:54

Is he doing it? Dd went through a phase of sticking hands in and smearing - stopped when I took sides off cot so she could come and find me

GoPoldark · 18/05/2012 16:55

We use NatureBaby nappies, available in Tesco.

Never once have they leaked.

DD is 2.5.

Not sure if that helps.

iccarus · 18/05/2012 19:02

it is crazy amounts of poo, i don't know how he does it. He does love weetabix though, so maybe it's that. No, he's not smearing i don't think, there is nothing on his hands. He tends to sit on his pillow when he wakes up which is why it ends up there. think may try a new brand and changing him in the night. thanks everyone. xx

Ah, weetabix poo, that takes me back. Grainy, horrible stuff.

effingwotsits · 18/05/2012 19:12

I would have a look on the tots bots website and get a couple of nappy wraps. They catch everything!
