Ann Summers Campaign Blogs

MmeLindor. · 11/05/2012 09:05

You might have heard of the incredibly some advertising campaign that Ann Summers is running right now.

It seems that some bright spark thought that Summer of Sex and Free Ice Creams in an I Scream Van would be a great advertising gag for the summer (definitely no pun intended).

Whatever you think of Ann Summers products and their shops generally, an advertising campaign using images and concepts that will awake the interest of children is just plain wrong.

Several of us are writing blogs about it, so to make it easier on you, I will collate them here.

Mine

the incredible SGM

Will add more as I find them.

I've never complained to the ASA before - but this is absolutely disgusting- how can I complain? Its not really my topic of blog (I'm more into children's craft and play activities) so I don't think it would be right for me to blog about it but certainly don't want to do nothing. I don't want my DD growing up in a world where this is 'OK'.

TheFairy
If you look on my blog, there is a link to the ASA website.

If you are on Twitter or Facebook, you could pass our blogs along to those who might be interested.

I'd hadn't heard of this campaign until I read this. Disgusting!

MmeLindor. · 11/05/2012 12:00

I can do a blog hop

MmeLindor. · 11/05/2012 12:36

I reported a (dairy lea) ad to the ASA a few yes ago (with another MNer) and it was easy to do, just fill in an online form. They were really great, kept in contact and were very professional. The ad was found to be misleading so I felt like I won too!

mrsshortiesmind · 11/05/2012 13:12

I am really shocked by what I have read on MmeLindor's blog and the incredible SGM. Why anyone would think that this is appropriate advertising is beyond me.

I am very concerned about the questions my 5 and 9 year old will ask if they see it.

There is nothing wrong with sex and what people might get up to, or like. But there will be plenty of time for my children to understand all that later in life. I don't want their childhood blighted by more sexy images, that have inapropriate tag lines.

Thanks for bringing this up, hopefully enough people will complain to get it stopped before too much damage is done.

Well, a member of LoveHoney team has just tweeted that they are enjoying the #misogynytour so that is something.

And the twitter feed is back on AS website.

Have got one in draft.

Dillytante · 12/05/2012 21:41

Have added mine to your blog hop MmeLindor

RecipeJunkie · 13/05/2012 08:33

I hadn't heard of this campaign but it is totally WRONG. I'm not sure if I am articulate enough to write a meaningful blog that isn't just full of spluttering outrage but I will try and find you on twitter (I'm a twitter novice) and retweet etc.

MmeLindor. · 13/05/2012 14:27

Dillytante
I am in awe. Your blog is one of the best things I have read. Brilliant.

Thanks, I have a link to Twitter on my blog. Come and say hello.

Really MmeLindor, do you think so? But yours has all the helpful ASA info and stuff, I just tend to free associate with my blog. And SGM and many more propel are better with the feminist analysis. I'm glad you like it though, thanks.

Tee2072 · 13/05/2012 17:22

I have added my blog to the hop.

So glad I don't live in England. Although I can just imagine the reaction to this in Belfast...

MmeLindor. · 13/05/2012 19:30

Thanks, Tee.

Dilly
it was this bit:

"We as a society need to start proving that we value women as more than just sexual objects. We need to give them more to aspire to than life as ?that girl who slept with a footballer then went on Celebrity Big Brother?. Only then can they have confidence in who they really are and have a sexual relationship that they really want, with someone who respects them, and not feel the need to feed into the sordid, misogynistic view of sex that Ann Summers promotes."

I was applauding (inwardly at least)

Good post, Tee. I like what you wrote about being a feminist who likes to cook and have a nice house.

I've shared the posts on my facebook page and also put a link in my own latest (and utterly trivial) post about my daughter's birthday party. Twitter tomorrow. You are fabulous - thanks for highlighting this.
