Hello, I'm new here, and I'm thinking about blogging about mental health...

Can anyone advise?

It's only a personal thing, not wanting to get hordes of visitors or advertising etc (so I'm not really sure if I'm on the right board, please bear with me). But if other people with similar problems end up reading it and being helped somehow, that'd be amazing.

Basically I have had MH issues my whole life and recently age 25 I have found out that I have Aspergers Syndrome. Everything has changed due to this discovery and I'm looking at things differently. I have a support thread going on the MH board which is fab [smug emoticon] but more and more I find my head filled with stuff I really want to write in a slightly more formal way, if that makes sense. I have started reading about other people's experiences and it is helping so much that I want to record mine too.

So before I waffle on too much I'll just ask if anyone can suggest how to start or how to arrange my thoughts? I generally find anything even vaguely social gets a bit much, so I wouldn't be promising regular and frequent posts. I am aware I've been too much of a perfectionist in the past and I know what I create will not be perfect! I would particularly like to write from my iPhone as I don't use the laptop much, so any App recommendations would be great too.

Thanks for reading :) Thanks

Blogger has an app, I sometimes post from my android phone. Just start your blog & get your thoughts out, see how it goes :)

I have one that I use to blog about my bipolar. I use Blogger/blogspot.

Ooh I didn't know blogger had an app, I used the website for a previous blog (lasted about 3 posts Blush) and at that point I don't think there was an app which put me off.

I have also heard of Wordpress and tumblr, is blogger better (I don't even know what I mean by 'better' really!) I'm not too bothered about posting photos, although I was wondering about posting links - can you link to anything without permission? Say if there was another Aspergers blog (there's loads around) that I wanted to link to, can I do that?

Also, should I do anything particular for my first post? Introduce myself etc?

In the future as I said I would like to try and reach other people in my situation, and I have no clue how I'd do that (apart from MN obviously :o), but I don't think I'll feel ready to try for a while.

Hi, I use Wordpress and that has an app too (free). I often type up posts on the iphone when I have my toddler around, and then later check everything on my desktop, but you can easily publish from the iphone too.

I blog about MH, but it is about depression, it's totally up to you if you want to introduce yourself or not. You can use your 'about me' to do that and then just start writing. I often use my blog to just get my feelings out and make sense of how I am feeling.

I hope that you manage to start something and it helps you get your mind in a bit more order.

X

hello :)

I actually realised I already had wordpress on my phone, so I've set one up on there after much turmoil debate (I hate being a perfectionist!).

I've done a brief intro page and that was quite enough for now! But now I've got over that hurdle I feel ready to start properly soon.

thanks all :)

I have just completed a blog on this. Well I say completed because it was a childbirth PTSD one started when preg with #2 and completed when she was born and all the PTSD was totally healed. It was amazing!

I blogged around each CBT/EMDR therapy session and then as and when things arose. Although I don't post to that blog anymore I love that it is still helping women with birth trauma- childbirthptsdandme.wordpress.com/ Good luck!

Thank you :)

I wrote my first post last night. I have told one person the address so far.

How long do I have to run the blog before I join the network thingy?

I blog about mental health stuff (PND) and my taper off antidepressant medication. I started it as a private diary over four years ago, but I had so much going on in my head it was great to get it all out, for me it's been hugely therapeutic and has grown and gone public and I have a fairly thriving facebook page and twitter account now.

strawberry17 · 12/05/2012 16:41

LadyCurd I had no idea that PTSD blog was you as well, I followed that and now I'm following you as LadyCurd on facebook etc, never made the connection.

LadyCurd · 28/05/2012 17:41

Strawberry17 I think I can guess who you are :D yup both me- I have 5blogs- glad when people don't always make the connections especially not to work me!

strawberry17 · 28/05/2012 20:09

LOL well I've connected you to three blogs now, don't worry I don't know the other two!

OysterandPearl · 29/05/2012 09:41

I definitely think you should do it. I wrote about my small and brief experience with post natal depression on my blog last week and received some such lovely comments. I think it's very helpful to write about these things, both cathartic for you and supportive to anyone reading who is going through similar issues.
