Discount shop in town selling kids paracetamol medicine for fraction of the normal price, WWYD?

Bit alarmed at this as obviously they are not pharmacists so not trained or licensed to dispense or advise, and no idea if the bottles have been stored correctly, etc. People may be tempted with the v cheap price but how safe is paracetamol of dubious origin?

Am I over thinking this? Feel like I should report them but who to?

WWYD?

Paracetamol up to a certain amount can be sold anywhere so they aren't doing anything wrong.

You can buy paracetamol at our local bargain basement - it is 16p - you could buy a whole shelf load and not be asked any questions - you have to use your common sense

Oh I didn't realise that, even kids medicine? Does that apply to ibuprofen too?

Report them for what? Paracetemol is an over the counter medicine, you don't need a prescription, and therefore a pharmacist to give it to you. They sell it in Sainsbo's for goodness sake!

I assume the bottles give instructions like 5-10ml max 4 x a day? So it's legit! Bag yourslef a bargain!

I buy paracetamol suspension for DS from B&M Bargains for 99p a bottle.

It does exactly the same job as the branded/more expensive variants at a fraction of the price.

titchy · 01/05/2012 12:52

Applies to any over the counter medicine. It's only where you need a prescription that dispensing is limited to pharmacies.

MadreInglese · 01/05/2012 12:59

Oh yes of course you can get it over the counter

I guess I was thinking about how they stored it and whether that would affect the safety of it, 'proper' shops will have to follow regulations on storage (temperature, etc). But yes in relation to giving advice on meds they're no less qualified than Beryl on the till at sainsbos!
