Fluctuations in pageviews?

Does anyone have this?
I'll be happily going along at say, 150 views a day for a few weeks and then it will drop to about 50, and it seems like I have to work really hard and it will take a good while to get it back up to the 150 mark again.

Perhaps they just all get fed up with the blog, but it's happened twice now and I'm wondering whether it's just 'par for the course'.

I find it hard not to over-interpret page views and take it really personally! Like "everyone liked me yesterday lunchtime, but no one likes me now, what have I done? Why has my blog gone rubbish?" It's ridiculous - sometimes I've had a lot of hits just because I've happened to be interested in something very "newsy" but then when the numbers go down again I turn it into some judgement of how interesting I am as a person (and decide, naturally, that I have become horrendously boring). But then I think "regular" visitors to your blog are worth so much more, as they're the people with whom you have the genuine conversations (Jesus, am I starting to sound like some "I love my fans!" Hollywood moron? That's the trouble - on days when I have loads of hits (for me) I start having delusions that I'm famous...)

Promise I'm not stalking you Glosswitch (but I'm your #1 fan), and I feel like you do about it- not good for the self esteem!

Blog stats confuse me- I have 5 blogs (I know I know). One blog post on one blog once got almost 4k hits but that blogs daily average is about 30 views- it just happened one very topical ranty post went a bit viral. But once you get a massive hit like that it's like a drug and you want to reach that all the time.

At mo my new blog is doing quite well but that is because I am a mentalist often doing 3 posts a day coz am fecking bored and breastfeeding, imagine as baby gets more active, I go back to work etc posts and thus my stats (and my self esteem ;) ) will take a nosedive.

Plus I just set up a new collaborative blog and its stats are sometimes better than mine and I am fecking jealous of it! That is messed up!

I seem to be averaging around 100 views a day. I've also put Adsense on and earned 53p!
I think that if I did posts more regularly my views would go up, but I reckon my posts wouldn't be so funny (I find them funny anyway).
Might have a go at trying to do a post every 2-3 days.

I've found the best way to bump up my pageviews (after joining Mumsnet bloggers network, which really helped) is to post one picture per post, and include an 'alt' tag describing the picture. That way people have started finding my blog by searching for pictures through Google Images... really helped!

I think that it is easy to get caught up in stats and forget what makes your blog readable. And popular.

Good quality content is the key. You can FB and tweet the heck out of it but if you are posting rushed content cause you are struggling to post daily then it will never be a success.

You also have to work on figuring out what a "success" would mean to you.

Do you want 1000s of page views? Want to make money out of it? Start a discussion?

My blog Salt&Caramel gets a couple of hundred page views when I post something (although can go much higher), but now that I have been going for a while I get 60 - 100 page views even when I don't post that day, just from google hits.

I tend to write about topical issues, so get a lot of hits from people searching for information about news stories.

On my new website Jump! Mag, I get more hits but that is due to FB followers and registered followers. It is a completely different demographic.

Tbh, to anyone starting a blog, I would say, "Don't do it for the money". Very very few make money from their blog. Saying that, blogging has enabled me to make money from my writing and opened doors to new and exciting things, so I am extremely glad that I started blogging.

oh, and the 250 new readers a day?

Don't make that your goal, unless you are willing to put a LOT of effort into your blog. And even then it is not guaranteed.

Most bloggers I know plod along around the 100 - 300 hits a day, some have fab blogs and get much less.

Hi, I'm very new to blogging, but did recently stumble across twitterfeed which is a free service that will post from your blog to your Facebook page and / or twitter within minutes of you writing a new post. I'm not sure I would have many pageviews at all without it!

Bella2010star · 13/05/2012 23:44

Could you explain how to do this my blog has loads of pictures so would be helpful. I can put labels to the actual posts but do not know how to do this on the images I use blogger. Any help would be appreciated.
