A man just rang my doorbell and spoke to me in a language I didn't understand. He didn't have a word of English. He was holding a print out of a journey from the Transport for London website with my address on it, and the piece of paper had my first name on it??? WTF??? I couldn't understand a word he was saying and got a bit spooked so just sent him on his way. I'm so glad I had the chain on the door as this has really scared me.

I have no idea what on earth this could be? Why did he have a print out of how to get to my address with him which had my name on it?

He walked off down the road.

I work from home and am a single parent.

What would you do?

He was trying to ask me a question or talk to me but I just didn't understand. I'm afraid I found this rather wierd and frightening.

Where did the journey start?

Byeckerslike · 16/04/2012 12:20

Wow, very strange. I would probably ring your local police station and tell them, not that i think you need to just, i suppose, what i would do.
That is very odd though Confused

I didn't look at the paper for long as I wanted to get rid of him. I was just thinking I should have had a better look at the paper.

Yeah, tempted to ring police or something. Certainly will do if I see him again.

You didn't lose the print out, by any chance and he found it and was trying to give it back to you?

Coud it have anything to do with your work?

discophile · 16/04/2012 12:25

He was asking me a question (which I didn't understand). Definitely nothing work related. Most odd.

Are you due to have anything collected from you? Courier? Something you sold on ebay? Something to do with work as you say you work from home?

discophile · 16/04/2012 12:26

Just can't think what it would be. I've calmed down a bit now.

I would call the non-emergency police number for a chat. We had a non-English speaking man sleeping rough in our street a couple of years ago, he kept approaching the houses and asking for cigarettes, although he wasn't aggressive the DCs and I (and the neighbours) were getting bothered by it, he would look in the lounge windows etc, he then started sleeping rough in the passage next to our house. The police were sympathetic and had words with him, someone from the council tried to persuade him to go to a shelter without success, i don't know where he ended up, but it was reassuring to know the authorities were keeping an eye on things.

The police were also very helpful when a well known local "character" threatened me outside my house last year.

FWIW He didn't look like a nutter. But he did look like he was expecting me to help him or provide him with information or something.

If you are anything like me it will suddenly come to you that you were expecting x,y or z, and you will be Blush

Courier companies and delivery people do not arrive on foot, speaking absolutely no English and without you ordering anything to be delivered... IME.
