Easter disco, dd2's friend and dresses.

Dd2 was trying on her new easter dress. Her friend happened to be there. She sadly told dd2 that she has no new dress. Feeling guilty I told her "I bet you have lots of nice dresses though. Dd2 has grown out of her party dresses. That's why she has a new one". The girl told me she had no dresses and didn't have a ticket for the disco and would probably not be going because she doesn't have a dress to wear.

Now I have no idea if this is true or not.

Dd1 has old dresses that no longer fit her but don't quite fit dd2 yet. They'd fit the friend because she is taller than dd2.

I have no problem in loaning or giving this girl one of dd1's old dresses for the disco if that is really whys he can't go, but how would go about it so as not offend anyone? Particularly as it may not be true.

They are five btw, so it would need to go through the mum.

Why not have a word with friend's mum? Where I live it is quite usual for friends to pass clothes around. Just say something like 'hope you won't be offended by my DD has grown out of a couple of things, would your DD like them?' Some people might take offence but in my opinion most people are only too delighted. If you want to link it to the disco as well I suppose you could offer to take the other little girl as well.

I could put together a bag of clothes that I wouldn't be passing down to dd2 because I/she doesn't like them.

Would she (the mum) not think it odd to be giving her clothes that will be fitting dd2 shortly?

DH thought I should just ask her if she wants to me drop her dd off at the disco since I will be walking mine there anyway, but then if she honestly can't afford a dress she's not just going to admit to it is she?

At my dd's school most of the girls wouldn't be seen dead in a dress at a school disco, leggings and dress tops are the in things or little shorts and tights!!! Maybe your dd's friend has a trendy mum who doesn;t realise her little girl longs for a girly dress.

It is very common to pass clothes on though.
