The Play's the Thing - what do we think of school plays

This week, I've decided to lay into school plays in a big way. I write as a teacher and as a parent - one who personally looks forward to never having anything to do with these wretched things again.

Are you one of those uber-supportive parents, running your kids back and forth to endless rehearsals? Is it all really worth it??

Enjoy ;) @crapteacher

Nobody here has children that are the stars of the show. Usually the best bits are when things go wrong ie my dd launching herself across the stage to rescue a piece of falling scenery got the biggest laugh in the btec pantomime at Christmas.
I think you will find at least two of the posters are teachers or in education.
As I said it is the tone of the blog that is unpleasant.

BIWI · 05/02/2012 15:57

Nope. It was humourous and ironic.

EvilTwins · 05/02/2012 16:09

Not sure it was remotely ironic.

And I am a drama teacher.

Interestestingly this had been moved to blogs where it belongs.
Also don't see the irony in the blog.

webwiz · 05/02/2012 16:37

Well I agree with bruffin that the tone is nasty. The most successful "hilarious takes on teaching" always have an undertone of warmth which is certainly lacking in this case.

crapteacher · 06/02/2012 09:17

OK, Evil Twin - perhaps you'd just like to give me a list of things you find funny, and I'll write something to order. I'm writing to entertain, by the way, not to argue - not sure where 'balance' is meant to come in. Also, should you be on a public discussion board if you are literally an 'evil twin'? Children seeing your messages might become corrupted by your evilness, after all...

I'm not an evil twin, no. My children are twins. Not evil, though we're once called that by a crazy mother after they and her PFB all cut each other's hair at nursery (aged 3)

Looks like i've hit a nerve by suggesting that I didn't find your blog funny, Crapteacher. I guess that's the thing with comedy- subjective.

crapteacher · 07/02/2012 11:24

Were you trying to hit a nerve, EvilTwins? I wouldn't bother - I'm far too laconic for that! I think I might be more worried if you did find my blog funny, actually. But we've made progress if you recognise that what I'm doing IS comedy.

And I can assure you, I'm not 'vile'. I'm much more a Mr. Farthing than a Mr.Gryce in the real world. ;)

PS Dare you NOT to have the last word!
