How much time do you spend blogging every day??

I used to (and still do I guess) think that people spent too much time in front of their computer, iphone, ipad.... and although I still did not give in to the iphone/ipad, I spend an awful lot of time on the computer, checking out my stats of course, but also reading lots of new blogs, and then emails, and all these others things I NEED to do on the computer. My husband is starting to complain so much that I try to hide from him - he is out tonight so I'm here on Mumsnet!!!
What about you?

I spend about an hour on my blog every day. I don't put that much thought into my posts tbh and just write them then post. I probably spend more time picking out pictures for them than I do actually writing!

However, I work from home as a writer and researcher so am online and stuck to my laptop all day already so fitting blogging/Tweeting time in isn't really an issue here.

Bexxia · 07/12/2011 13:54

I don't blog everyday, but I do check my stats, keep up with facebook and twitter, read other blogs etc.

When I write a post, I tend to be quite slow and it's not uncommon for me to spend an hour+ doing it. If I'm reviewing something I'll take even longer as I like to prepare any photos and research on the 'net for any interesting information to add. I'll usually do reviews in a couple of sittings as then I can go back and add something I've remembered before publishing.

My hubby spends just as much time on his webcomic, so he can't complain. Grin

I try and blog most days, sometimes twice. I never spend more than 20 minutes on a post, but very often much less.

I spend a lot more time reading other people's blogs. I just said on anothre thread I will possibly give up blogging in the new year when I go back to work. I have other writing projects and I want to prioritise them I guess. I'll be very sad though as I love the blogging community.

So not that much time then! Like Bexxia I can spend quite a lot of time on a post, rereading it many times and then I'm still not always that convinced. I read so many posts that sounds like they have been written by professionals.
And like petite raleuse, I spend so much time reading other people's blogs or mumsnet. I can easily spend 2 hours in front of the computer and I don't know where the time goes! And often I will go on my computer before cleaning the kitchen and do laundry and I end up doing all the chores at 11pm!!! Thanks for your reply.

really good question. I just don't have the time at the moment to post every day but when I do I seem to a long time on it. I assume that's because I write the rest of the time and therefore obsess about getting the wording right when actually, in this context, people aren't that interested in the style. But yes, the whole business can be quite time-consuming when you factor in reading everyone else's blogs (which I enjoy doing), tweeting (which I've just started doing) etc Again, I wonder if that's because I'm new to it and therefore it's a novelty. When I'm at my desk and not up against a deadline that's fine but if it's a particularly frantic day I have to force myself not to do anything blog-related until I've finished work

Not enough! - I'd love to spend more time blogging but only manage to do it about a couple of times a week, if that. I do tend to take a while on each post though, sometimes a couple of hours, so often end up staying up far later than I should - like now for example - I'm impressed at your diligence doing the chores late at night, my house just stays a mess! I've just started trying to tweet as well which is a bit easier to squeeze in. Fortunately, I don't have a husband to complain about it, although my youngest can whinge a bit if I don't get to him when he wants his feed. Still not managed BWBF - a skill I must acquire!

I spend a lot of time blogging. Unfortunately, with food blogging, it can't be helped. I usually post around 8 - 10 recipes per month.

My work flow goes something like this -

Food cooked + recipe developed - depends on how much time it takes, no set time. If its something that I can keep, then I photograph it the next day in natural light.
Very quickly styled - (I never have much time for this) maybe about 5 - 10 minutes.
Photographed - anywhere between 1 - 2 hours. Depends on natural light, so usually between the hours of 12 and 4 on Friday/ Sat/ Sunday. Ocasionally, I will rush back when my daughter is in preschool and take a few pictures in a couple hours.
Photographs post processed - Easily 2 - 3 hours, depending on how many pictures I will post.
Write intro and story - again, depends, but I am a fairly good writer, so about 2 - 3 hours.
Recipe + Printable Recipe - roughly 30 minutes.
Put post together - 30 minutes.
Reread and edit - 30 minutes.

Damn, that's a lot of time per recipe.

fiddlerintheloft · 08/12/2011 09:48

ScatCatShoo that is a lot of time, but there's rather a lot more work that needs to go into yours, and the food does look amazing Smile

Subject matter and the amount of research needed obviously makes a huge difference. Some posts are much easier to bang out than others.

You are making me feel a bit rubbish; I have been sitting on this one post for at least 4 days and it's now reading like an essay. I think I might be over-thinking it a bit... This means I don't blog every day by a very long shot, especially as I am trying to take my own photos and I am not very good at it. I spend an inordinate amount of time reading other people's blogs instead of thinking of my own, mostly because there are so many good ones out there. Must try harder!

lowimpactmama · 08/12/2011 23:16

Such an interesting question! But I'm still a new blogger so reckon I'm still finding what works for me.

ScatCatShoo that is a lot of time...but your blog and recipes are amazing, so your hard work definitely pays off!

I don't spend a set amount of time a day blogging, and try to write posts quickly (as otherwise I'd agonise over every word!). But I think about blogging a fair bit, mainly falling asleep when I think of things that I like or care about that may make good blog posts. I spend my downtime (usually over lunch) at work catching up on other blogs and tend to mooch around the internet at night (like now, waiting for DH to get home from a night out and vaguely watching Question Time while also reading MN). Hours of my life can disappear this way - MN addiction/blog reading/twittering/facebook Blush.

ScatCatShoo · 09/12/2011 02:46

Yes, that's the problem with food blogging. The thing is, we are all competing for a very small slice of the pie (hehe) so it takes a while to make sure everything works well. See, with cookbooks, you're stuck with what you buy, so its unlikely people will return them. But with a recipe from a blog, one dud and you've lost the reader forever, so I have to check everything at least twice.

It helps being a SAHM, though, I don't think I could quite keep up this pace if I had to work too. And I am always in awe of the mums that work and blog...
