WWYD - would you say something (re weaning)

A friend has just posted a pic on FB of her feeding her 18/19 week old DD, with the comment "just fed DD her first meal and she LOVED it! Rice and Mediterranean vegetables!"

This makes me sad for 2 reasons

  1. rice and mediterranean veg suggests to me that it was a pre-prepared jar or something (although I could be very wrong on that score) surely not good for a first food
  2. her DD was born 8 weeks premature... at 18 or 19 weeks is her dds stmach is mature enough?

I do not have any right to interfere, its their baby they can do what they want i guess. i know they haven't seen a HV much since being signed off from the preemie team.

Would you say something? I feel they may be going off the "guidelines" that say wait til 17wks minimum and not taking her premature birth into account. Or should I just ignore it as really, it's none of my business whatsoever.

I just don't understand the rush to wean such a tiny baby :( she was being fed laid across mum's knee, don't know if she can sit up yet.

My friend had a baby at 28 weeks and my little brother was born at 32 weeks - both started weaning at 17 weeks on the advice of doctors - it's very common to wean premature babies early

I didn't say I had an issue with a jar, but that I wouldn't have thought it good for a FIRST food, don't they generally have fairly high sugar contents?

I can't imagine that weaning will kill their dd either and I didn't say that. my concern was more that she was born 8 weeks prematurely, and from my knowledge prem babies need to adjust in age, however I'm happy to be told I'm wrong.

The likelihood is I won't say anything, they are a lovely couple who would do anything for their dd, but they are fairly young and I was concerned they have been a bit misguided.

Thank you Apricots - I'll just keep my nose out, clearly I have overreacted about something that sweet FA to do with me in the first place :)
