How can I get more readers on my blog?

Hello. Two friends and I have just started a parent blog, www.meheandthem.wordpress.com (and rather than tell you about our every day, we try to talk about anything that might interest parents, what to do at the week-end, what to cook and any other thoughts or funny stories) but we have so few readers, we feel we are doing all this for nothing.
We have started 3 weeks ago and emailed all our friends. We have add 70+ review on a day or 2 but often it's between 5 and 20 viewers!!
I know we need to comment on other blogs and subscribe to blogging websites but I'm not sure which ones and we don't want all my readers to be other mummy bloggers, we would also like just mums and dads.
It would be great if you could have a look at our blog and maybe let me know what you think, what you like and don't like, what we could improve. Also how long did it tell you to have a readership outside of your friends and family? Thanks. Me & The Boys.

MmeLindor only just seen this, I shall try and sort the link out today! Need another tea first though (decaff for now so I'm not sure how much it will help unfortunately). I'm sorry you cried :( It was awful though, we just couldn't believe it either, totally shocking and unexpected. Nothing has happened since, touch wood.

I too am wondering how to get more readers, maybe its what all bloggers are wondering...

I can see that I get lots of page views, but very few people are opting to subscribe by email. As I'm new to the whole thing I don't really get the difference between subscribers and followers.

Any tips?

My blog is relatively new. I have spent a lot of time building a community on twitter and now get a fair amount of traffic from that.

I also sometimes blog about someone well known or maybe a TV programme and then use the SEO to bring in hits from google.

Having said all that, I once blogged about making bread as a break from blogging about adoption and got my highest hit rate. All grist for the mill though!

Jandanaligazan (did I get that right?) I have subscribed to your blog, it looked so interesting. I actually prefer to subscribe by e mail to a blog, that way I don't miss the posts. I'm not entirely sure of the difference between subscribing and following, I think it's just different ways of following a blog, I think following is more the google connect thing and Facebook networked blogs and subscribing is subscribing by e mail?

I have been blogging avidly for 3-4 months now, and I only have 3 Followers but I know some friends subscribe to the email feed (blogspot's) but I don't know if they are incl. in the stats? I don't think so? I think I need to do something else to get full stats, but might be complicated?
Also my blog is a kind of ongoing story based on my life - friends who read it say they love it and can't wait for next episode - but it's not really the kind of thing that you can network with as it's not reviews-based or parenty-chat based. Please do have a look and let me know what you think. partic the recent experience from 31 Oct-2 Nov re my beloved dog.

MeHeandThem, I just had a quick look at your blog. I would say it looks really interesting, and I really like the photo of the top. I would say add more of those kind of photos. Blogs are about writing, but I think readers also like to see photos. Hope that's helpful.
