Happy Sundays everyone. I have started the week with a rant about the Zara Mike non story in the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. Here.

ok I think I've caught up on a good few of these posts! I have commented on a fair few, hope I didn't leave anyone out!

MmeGuillotine · 07/10/2011 15:29

I went to a day of blogging workshops in Bristol yesterday and have put some of the blogging tips together in a post. :)

TheGrassIsJewelled · 07/10/2011 16:28

Oooh thanks mmeG. Will work through them now Grin

TheGrassIsJewelled · 07/10/2011 16:30

And thanks tom for my very first comment : 0

I agree with the others. Great blog but the pink background was a bit offputting.

MmeG
Loved your blogging tips, am going to try some of them out

Mummybarrow
Have voted and tweeted.

MmeGuillotine · 07/10/2011 17:12

Thank you! I picked the tips that were more about writing the blog but there were also lots of helpful pointers about blogging in an ethical way and dealing with PR people. :)

PetiteRaleuse · 07/10/2011 17:17

A rant against the Tories and their plans to build on all the pretty parts of England; And a link to the National Trust petition to stop them here

Thank you! I usually avoid such malarkey but made an exception as I was so impressed by how much new information I picked up. :)

Butterflyexperience and ScaredTEEcat- thanks for the feedback. still getting to grips with the whole blogging thing so not really sure I understand what you mean by my blog theme? It is predominantly a blog around cooking and baking. or is the theme something else? don't know anything about wordpress- why would you recommend that over the one that i am currently using? Is it hard to move a blog over without losing what you've already done? Sorry if this is really obvious- as I say still getting to grips with it all. thanks for taking the time to reply

MLKitchen · 07/10/2011 17:46

Having just replied I've now seen mmeG's post- is the theme the background you are talking about? tried out different colours but wanted one that wasn't too dark so that it was still easy to read. graphics and design not really my strength! Do you think things like that makes a big difference to followers? Thanks again for taking time to reply.

MmeGuillotine · 07/10/2011 17:52

I think they mean the background colour of the actual blog itself. I like it and don't think it is hard to read. I like nice bright colours too though. :)

The appearance of the blog does make a difference to people when they first land on it, but once they subscribe they'll never see what it actually looks like if they are reading it through Google Reader or similar. :)

MmeGuillotine · 07/10/2011 17:53

Also, if you decide to move to Wordpress, it's really really easy and you can export all your posts and pictures across without any faff. :)

MLKitchen · 07/10/2011 18:04

I see thanks. Will have a play around with the theme. Did wonder about a brighter colour to start with but wasn't sure if that worked with the recipes etc. Guess it may stand out a bit more though.

PetiteRaleuse · 07/10/2011 18:05

I tried to move to Wordpress and it would only import my blog titles - none of the body of each post. So I stamped my foot and gave up!

@ Tomisinathewitchescat - this is probably very obvious but what do you mean by link up (in relation to cooking posts?) thanks

MmeLindor. · 07/10/2011 18:43

MLK
to be honest, if I were you I would stick with blogger for a bit. It is slightly easier to use than WP and you can do lots with it. I can give you a hand with it if you need some help. I used to use blogger and I don't think that it will have changed too much.

Have a look here to see how to use the template designer
bloggerindraft.blogspot.com/2010/03/blogger-template-designer.html

The bright colour is ok for a general blog, imo but distracts from the photos in a cookery blog.

have a look at foodfootballandababy.blogspot.com/ - Scatcat has bright colours in the header, but white further down where the blog posts are.

ScatCatShoo · 07/10/2011 20:36

MLK, you've got some great material, and I love your blog.

As MMeLindor and other have said though, it can be a wee bit distracting. I want to share the best how-to-food-blog post I've read with you, I think it will really help you. I basically redesigned my blog after reading this, and its made a huge difference to me.

How to be a Food Blogger

Also, in more exciting news, I taught my first ever Indian cooking class last night and I LOVED it!!! So I decided to take the plunge and offer private lessons to people who may want to learn more about Indian cooking. A bit nervous, but I am hoping it will take off. Have a look at my Facebook page to see pictures :) And if you have anyone that lives around Edmonton, AB, who'd like to learn how to cook Indian food, send them my way please :)

MmeGuillotine · 07/10/2011 20:49

Wow, that's brilliant ScatCat! Good luck! I'd definitely sign up for lessons if I lived near you. :)

ScatCatShoo · 07/10/2011 20:54

Thanks MmeG :)

I am excited but really nervous too! My mum did laugh though when I told her I was teaching Indian cooking... I've come a long way from someone who once exploded an egg :)

PetiteRaleuse · 07/10/2011 20:54

Good luck with that ScatCat . My sister used to live there Envy but am not sure if I have any family there anymore (a lot of my family are in Canada Envy Envy )
