Four things to know about Mumsnet Bloggers Network

ElinorMumsnetBloggers · 20/09/2011 13:55

Hi all,

We're keen to get you out and about on the site and beyond, but here's what we need to promote you more powerfully on our homepage, Featured Bloggers slots, MN newsletters and social media:

  1. A bloggers network badge on your site: This is an important part of membership. The badge links back to the network homepage, which drives more readers to everyone. So keep the love flowing and attach that badge! We shared information on how to attach it in your welcome email, and please ping us as [email protected] if you're really struggling.

From October, we'll expect you to display the badge to gain a top promo slot on Mumsnet and newsletters, or to review products for us, so it's worth the effort.

  1. A picture for your blog: A few of you have sent em in, but most of you are concealing the goods. Don't be shy! A unique image for your blog will make it far more clickable.

And we need them to promote you as a Featured Blogger.

You could use a headshot, or whatever you use on social media. It needs to be at least 80 x 80 pixels, ideally square. But a rectangular shape is also OK. We can work with jpg or png formats.

Please send it to [email protected]. We'll cut them and add them to your profile.

  1. Your Twitter handle: Please take a gander at your profile on the directory and give us a heads-up if you didn't include your Twitter handle when you applied. It gives us a quick and powerful way to spread the word to our wider audience.

If you're new to Twitter, we'll be doing much more on this in the autumn, so watch this space. You can follow us @MumsnetBloggers for the latest from the blogs.

  1. Your blogging byline: We've taken the name on your blogging profile or left it blank (and we will never use your real name unless it's already out there on your blog). But please email us if you'd like to change your byline. Again, you can check this out in the bloggers directory.

OK, that's it for now.

Thanks, Elinor

Thanks for accepting my blog, it has made a big difference to the hit rate. Also nice to be part of a forum for bloggers - helps to make the learning curve a little less steep.

Hello! Not new to blogging but new to being a Mumsnet blogger (and pretty excited about it all too). Not sure if you have my Twittery thing, so here it is:

@iCan_Blog

Looking forward to reading other Mumsnet blogs now!

TheGoktor · 14/10/2011 16:30

Oh forget that, I've just looked in the directory and discovered I did send it to you....along with a photo, which doesn't appear to be showing up. No matter, I can live with looking like one of Charlie's Angels!

Witchthis · 19/10/2011 20:27

Hi, I've dipped my toe into twitter land . I'm @stitch_this - you've already got everything else I believe.

SallyDon · 23/10/2011 11:30

Just wanted to say thanks for loading my picture etc. and for the twitter mentions. It has broadened readership and hopefully pushed some different users your way as well.

tash640 · 07/11/2011 18:26

Hi, I sent a profile pic via email but it doesn't appear on my blog. Also I am using blogger.com and use the 'dynamic' view for my blog - by all accounts you can't add the gadget(is that what they call it) so I can't put the mumsnet badge on - is this true or am I missing something?

thanks
txx

ElenMumsnetBloggers · 08/11/2011 11:26

Hi tash640,
We'll be uploading your profile pic soon - bear with us.
We'll ask our tech team to look into uploading the badge on the dynamic views in Blogger, and get back to you.
Best wishes
Elen

tash640 · 08/11/2011 12:33

thank you that's great! tx

Lizmundo · 15/11/2011 13:47

Hi, I was sent a welcome email yesterday and I just wondering when my blog will be appearing on the site? Also, I've made a twitter account for my blog, it's @lizmundoblog :)

Thank you :)

IntrepidK8 · 30/11/2011 12:44

ElenMumsnetBloggers · 03/12/2011 17:43

Hi IntrepidK8 and Lizmundo,

Could you email us in with those queries at [email protected] and we'll process them first thing on Monday. Thanks!

ElenMumsnetBloggers · 03/12/2011 17:44

Hi Jongleuse,

What makes you think that? We've found you in our directory. And we can most certainly help with badge issues - email us in at [email protected]...

garlicnutter · 05/12/2011 21:51

I'm more than proud to announce AnyFucker's first EVER blog post - and what a scorcher!

On the Frothers' website, toomanycuts.blogspot.com, AF writes about her fears for her 16-year-old daughter, the worryingly uncertain future facing our young people, and the idiocies that have brought us here.

If you have had some "FFS what are the government doing??!" moments this week you're a Frother ... Join us. #frothers

ElenMumsnetBloggers · 06/12/2011 09:52

Hi garlicnutter,

Have you thought about starting a new thread for this topic, or adding to the 'new posts this week' topic? More people are likely to see your post that way...

garlicnutter · 06/12/2011 18:53

Oh, sorry, I thught this was the new threads topic Blush

Thanks! I'll go an have a look for it ...

ATOmum · 11/12/2011 23:02

Hello, have joined Twitter - at last - I am @AttemptingTO

ATOmum · 12/12/2011 16:39

Also, I know other people have asked about this but I really can't seem to see any of my posts on the 'most recent post' list and I checked about 15 pages from well after I posted to well before - am I going completely blind or am I doing something wrong? Xmas Confused

ShirleyKnot · 12/12/2011 20:32

I'm getting pretty disillusioned TBH.

The same bloggers are featured week after week. There are hundreds of us with the MN badge but there seems to be a strict rotation of the same bloggers being featured on the front page and in "featured" blogs.

I'd like the opportunity to read some other stuff - the push for some less known bloggers - I thought that was the point of the network?

SanTEEClaus · 12/12/2011 20:43

I have to agree with Shirley. I was totally stunned and incredibly surprised to be a part of the Advent Calendar and can't help but wonder if it was because I wasn't happy with the new widget and said so and because of a conversation I had with a fellow blogger on Twitter regarding the lack of hits I get through the network. Certainly the post that was chosen was hardly my best work.

And I think the last time I was featured was about 4 or more months ago, so the timing is certainly suspect to suddenly find myself featured again. Especially, as Shirley says, the same bloggers are featured over and over again. And there are surely hundreds who have never been featured at all.

ShirleyKnot · 12/12/2011 21:27

Thank God! I thought I was alone in this!

I'm really not getting any appreciable hits and certainly not getting any publicity for my blog. That's fine, but I'm pretty sick to death of reading the same stuff featured all the time.

I don't like the whole ethos of the network really, or at least what appears to be the ethos which is pulling in viewers to MN while pushing the famous bloggers with the odd MNer shoved in for 'balance'

I'm starting to seriously reconsider being part of the network TBH.

SanTEEClaus · 12/12/2011 21:42

I've been reconsidering it for awhile. It's gotten too big with too many blogs to do what they said they wanted to do, which was, as I understood it, feature all the blogs at one point or another. But if you post, there are so many that your blog is on the front page of the network for maybe an hour.

I'm not that bothered since I blog for me but the timing of my appearing in the Advent Calendar was very very odd and a bit telling.
