Hi at 3/4 weeks old my son started to get what looked like milk spots and heat rash worse on side where he was sick and side he lays on, took to hv who said this is what it was, at 5 weeks in 2 days skin became dry then yellowy crusty took straight to dr who said had impertigo and prescribes anti biotics and aqueous cream after 5 day course of anti biotics finished scabs had cleared but spotty rash stayed, told hv who told me not to use aqueous cream but johnsons baby oil whilst he was antibiotics so I just let scabs dry and flake off own, I went to drs for 6 week check and she now says it's eczema and to carry on using aqueous cream, i've read on some walls this can aggrivate skin more, it does seem redder in last 2 days of re using it, but skin not so dry, he is sleeping worse and full of wind all night, which makes me think could it be the formula causing it, I asked dr but knowing from past experiance with my nephew dr's are very reluctant to try soya formula on babies which when my sister did on my nephew it cleared up in days... please anyone advice on formula, creams etc, he has just started to rub and scratch his face too... thanks in advance

Oh god! You sound like me 8 months ago. Same thing. This could be my earlier post! I was in floods of tears watching baby turn into scary, flaky, dry skinned red looking child. I was worrying about my diet as i was BF and wondered if that was the issue etc. went to dr. Dr gave me medicated cream for eczema and told me baby also might have fungal infection, for which gave another cream and then asked me to use aqueous cream. HV told me drs should ban all J&J products as they dry out skin. She was also mad about the fact that Drs should know that aqueous cream burns on dry skin and should only be used for bathing. HV then said Aveeno - just get it! And Aveeno, though expensive, worked like magic. I could not recommend it highly enough. HV said then that baby will get better at 6months. My DS is now 9 mo and still sensitive to most products, he bathes on alternate days with Aqueous cream and on the other days with plain lukewarm water. And gets coated with aveeno each day :)

Its probably not eczema..its dry skin in the extreme. Aqueous cream on dry skin makes it red and burn, use it only to bathe baby (only on wet skin and then its wonderful). Ask Dr to prescribe Aveeno Cream, use that for a week and my guess is all will be well.

Hope that helps. I know it can be distressing to see baby like that :( but read other boards about Aveeno and see if you would like to give it a shot.

Thank you for your replies, the aqueous cream is def making my sons face red, someone today also recommended aveeno cream so i will be buying that tomorrow!!! I've decided to give it til he's 12 weeks old and if no better going to try soya, even if cream stops dryness etc it won't get rid of it forever it may be infant eczema but you never know if it will stay just like Ma matto says, thanks again guys!!
