Do I tell my neighbour her kitchen is infested with mice?

This is rather delicate.

DD's bedroom window has a clear view down into next-door's kitchen.

At bedtime DD drew my attention to several mice who were bolting out of the kitchen skirting, feasting on crumbs and generally having a high old time while neighbour (who is very nice, tho' not a bosom pal) was safely away upstairs giving her many children baths and putting them to bed.

What's the etiquette here? Would you want to know? (I would, I think.)

I'd definitely want to know. Mice wee everywhere

Valpollicella · 08/03/2011 22:31

Definitely tell her. She's probably unaware. I'd want to know!

Just tell her exactly what you've said in your OP - factual!

CarmelitaMiggs · 08/03/2011 22:31

she has a very new baby and so I guess she might be at a low ebb... might this finish her off?

Could you offer to help to phone pest places when you tell her? (maybe?)

Hassled · 08/03/2011 22:33

God yes. Tell her. Makes sure she realises this was your DD snooping on her house, not you :o.

You might discover they all have names and are considered part of the family.

PaisleyLeaf · 08/03/2011 22:33

She must know mustn't she? All the droppings.

CarmelitaMiggs · 08/03/2011 22:34

that's what DH said. You can't miss the crap apparently.

it's difficult, no?

DD and DS did wonder if they were pets

Paisley, from experience the droppings might not always be in visible places....

We had them and only discovered it when one of the fuckers died in its nest (where we tracked the smell down to).

No visible droppings anywhere else but around the nest (behind fireplace)

i wish I could do an anonymous tipoff

You could call Environmental Health at your local council anon? My friend did this with her neighbours who had rats

CarmelitaMiggs · 09/03/2011 17:41

Have slept on it and decided I have to say something. Oh goodness, how to phrase it?

Don't tell her when there's nothing she can do about it.

Tell her first thing and offer to help her put the pellets down etc.

Your DD must have amazing eyesight!

VelvetSnow · 30/06/2011 14:50

surprised your neighbour hasn't noticed if her kitchen is infested

If you want to be kind say something along the lines of "Hey neighbour, I've had a few mice droppings in my kitchen, perhaps you want to have a look at your kitchen/house just to be on the safe side - no biggie"

Up to you, although I'd love to watch those mice having a high old time Grin
