appeal against parking ticket

I was given a street parking ticket a month ago, when I attended my GP for an emergency appointment. My council states that parkers can either pay using the meter, or find another meter if the one closest isn't working, or phone a central call centre and pay using a debit or credit card.
I was parked in a public parking space but the meters were out of order on the street where I was parked and so were the meters in the next street and in the car park nearby.

I couldn't use my mobile phone because it needed charging.
I appealed against the fine giving these reasons plus the fact that the ticket stated that the parking attendent had observed the car of one minute - which I said was unreasonable.
I have now received a letter saying my appeal hasn't been upheld but I can take it further (ie to court)if I want to
What would you do?
I'm inclined to go to court.

Littlepushka - frankly to allow least 5 of the nearest pay and display meters to be out of order and to expect people to have a working phone on them at all times smacks of sharp practice to me, especial when the local authority is crowing that there are a range of options ie use the meter, find aonther one or pay by mobile phone.

Also I am not abusing the court process - it is an option which the local authority themselves have told me is a legitimate alternative to paying the charge. We still live in a democracy and the 'little people' need to be able to challenge unfair processes. I don't need you to remind me about the squeeze on geriatric services but it is too easy for local authorities target motorists. However it isa l.ikely that these sharp practrices will come along and bite them on the bum as fewer people will use local services and shops if they can't park and this will reduce the parking revenue anyway.

I bet I get an equally biting response from you so I don't know whuy I am bothering but if you are involved in the community care services I can tell you that so am I and I don't buy into your apologies for local autherity revenue raising schemes

Come on LittlePushka they make a profit on parking they make an even bigger one issuing tickets.

I do not think it is unfair process. You have been financially inconvenienced and you are hacked off by it... it is hardly a miscarriage of justice!! I am merely stating that everyone is bound by the same rules - you are not more deserving than anyone else - this is the democracy in which we live . I am sorry if you think that I am biting.

Coffee, I hope they do make massive profits on parking and parking tickets where people park without paying. I am not making an apology for local authority revenue scheme. Id support a whole lot more relating to speeding fines (especially around schools)were that possible!

If they make profits they should not be allowed to fine people if their systems fail.

Well I've given up and paid. Couldn't be arsed to fight it although I still think ther whole thing stinks.
