And here are our study materials for the evening. Not sure if we've had them before, but have tried to find new ones - is getting trickier Grin!

Enjoy!

I'm glad I've not been expelled for saying he wasn't perfect! But I agree it adds to the je ne sais quoi of the outstanding actor that he is!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 19/11/2010 11:40

It's a perfect imperfection though, Fettle. I mean, look at that nose. A little on the large side, peut-etre,in isolation, but ultimately one of his most attractive features.

One of so many.

Down, Teri

Theresa great vid but, good lord, that singing was appalling!

I thoroughly agree with you, Stripey. A shame cos I like the song.

a rather long one that is very good in parts. And no singing.
ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 14:53

Stripey - many thanks for the cravatfest. As you say, a grievous lack of Mr Thornton but (as Theresa predicted) the sight of Mr Rickman as Colonel Brandon goes a very long way indeed towards compensating for that. (And being a disco dolly I love the song, to which we bopped at our wedding reception). I also noticed the presence of Evil Vaughn, before he went over to the Dark Side. The second cravatfest looked lovely but who was that singing? Someone about to be chucked out of a pub for being drunk and disorderly?

I'm glad too that the portrait I dragged out of the archive has been deemed worthy of a second and third airing!

I don't mind anyone swooning over RPJ - why should I? After all, I have used space on the earlier thread to tremble and swoon over Mr Rickman. But I do find it baffling, as he's just, well rather ordinary, isn't he?

And it is quite true that the most beautiful people often have imperfect or asymmetric features. Perfection often equates to unremarkable blandness, which the brain does not register in the same way as beauty. And Our Man Armitage is clearly not unremarkable or bland.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 15:02

Theresa - I can't get the great men of period drama to strut their stuff on my PC. But if we are looking for MI5 operatives in period dress, we should never forget Sir Harry Pearce as Angel Clare.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 19/11/2010 15:06

''not unremarkable or bland''

Amen to that, Flowers.

Teri, drink your coffee.

I do apologise for the awful singing, I thought the vid was worthy of a look because the visuals were not bad and I do like the song itself. I suppose you can't have everything. Unless your initials happen to be R.A.

StripeyMoon · 19/11/2010 15:06

RPJ is certainly more 'polished' than RA but I can see the beauty in both. Ordinary is not an adjective that I would apply to RPJ. I must admit though that having been drawn into the University I am drawn to the less perfect a bit more.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 19/11/2010 15:07

How strange, Flowers, it's usually my machine that has YT ishoos.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 15:10

Yes, it rarely happens to me.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 15:14

Stripey - It is not treachery to admire other gentlemen. After all, Our Man's beauty must be set in context. And I confess that, despite years of rigorous intellectual endeavour, and the recent very intensive study here, I struggle with the great existential questions such as who is more handsome, Mr Thornton or Doctor Doug Ross?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 19/11/2010 15:24

I went off the good doctor when I saw what bad taste he had in coffee. What does it take to grind a few beans and stick them in a cafetiere FGS?

Talking of Doctors

Dear Dr Alec,
I am happy to report that by following your special regimen I am continuing to lose unwanted weight. I even begin to think my cellulite issues must have diminished, possibly through the alternate hot/cold therapy I have been undergoing. However to be sure of this I really need you to come over and check this out

             Yours in hope
                      Theresa
ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 15:36

Honestly, Theresa, you have a One Track Mind.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 15:39
Theresaholeinyourmind · 19/11/2010 15:42

Come on Flowers, you know I do intellectual passion too

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,--I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!--and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 19/11/2010 15:44

He looks a bit anxious in that last piccie. Maybe my letter has reached Control and they're reading it out to him.

StripeyMoon · 19/11/2010 15:45

Would anyone like to see my 6'5" bit of yorkshire rough?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 15:47

Yes I do, but I've been waiting since this morning to work in that one Track mind joke and it was, ahem, a golden opportunity.

And now some reflections on loving despite the beloved's imperfections -

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress when she walks treads on the ground.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

StripeyMoon · 19/11/2010 15:48

He's on my profile for a nanosecond, even got a cravat on in the first one!

StripeyMoon · 19/11/2010 15:48

I don't get the one track mind joke so it was wasted on me.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 15:48

OK, Stripey.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 19/11/2010 15:49

If you must, Stripey.

StripeyMoon · 19/11/2010 15:50

Not sure why one phot is smaller than the other - I scanned them the same Confused

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 15:51

The doctor character is Alec Track.

I say, Stripey. I thought it was going to be something shocking from YT. What a good-looking couple you are.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 19/11/2010 15:52

Well you live and learn. I never knew Buzz Lightyear was from Yorkshire.
Seriously Stripey, very nice. What are you doing on here again?
