My bus driving uncle keeps having severe angina attacks.

My aunt's fourth husband had a heart attack at the beginning of this year. he is in his early fifties, and is still smoking, drinking, eating badly and doing no exercise. He went back to work as a bus driver after 6 months and my mum told me today that he keeps having severe angina attacks but that he is not telling work. I am really angry that he is being so irresponsible and feel like phoning the bus company to tell them, but I wonder if this is fuelled by me thinking he is an idiot generally, as well as fear for his passengers and other road users.
WWYD?

I'm surprised the bus company didn't put him through some sort of medical before letting him back, but I suppose his problems may not have been apparent then. I think you do have to tell the bus company because of the "Other People" factor, but I'm not sure how you'd be able to do that with any "authority", iyswim.

Thanks for the reply. Families are complicated but I can't shake the idea of him having an attack and hitting a car at speed.

And then it would always be on your conscience, even though you're not responsible. Difficult, isn't it? :(

Call the DVLA yourself

clemetteattlee · 03/11/2010 23:00

That's an idea.

You need to call the DVLA.

I have drafted an email and will hopefully build up the courage to send it tomorrow. The company would have to offer him alternative work I assume [hopeful emoticon]

Look - it's not just his work that's the issue - if his health renders it unsafe he shouldn't be driving anywhere! That's why it's the DVLA who need to know. Speaking as somebody who cycles every day with my young daughters I quite like not to share the road with people at immediate risk of carking it whilst in charge of several tons of machinery!

email sent.
