Leave medical practice now or wait?

Have just found out that the best doctor in the world is retiring from my medical centre. The rest of the practice is useless!

The other medical centre in the area is still taking patients at the moment but the rumour is that lots of people want to go there because of doctor leaving other surgery. They are soon closing their books.

However dr is not retiring until March, do I wait a bit in the hope that I can still get in other surgery and have 5 months of my doctor, or just get on and leave?

The Dr brought in to replace your current Dr may be fabulous. nd the Drs at the other practice may be really awful! You could switch to another Dr at your practice too.

I can see any doctor at the current practice and they are all crap, I dont like any of them, I dont like the receptionists, or the nurse, or the practice manager and always said I would leave when doctor left.

New surgery has good reputation, friends of ours are there, it is within walking distance from home

I would change then. The only thing you like about your current practice is the Dr who is leaving.

mosschops30 · 21/10/2010 13:57

yes I am deffo going to change but do I do it now, or have the last 5 months with doctor and risk there being now spaces at new surgery?

Are you currently on any medication? Having treatment for anything that may be affected by switch over?

If they are closing their books, i would change asap personally.

mosschops30 · 21/10/2010 17:01

thanks I am only on very minor medication and all my current treatment is being handled privately so nothing to do with the GP.

I went down this afternoon but they told me that I couldnt switch because I already had a GP in the area. They gave me a number to call if I wasnt happy. Called number and they said that this is wrong, if they have spaces then they can take anyone regardless and that its patients choice, so have already upset receptionist who said I now need to speak to Practice Manager, she had a bit of a cats bum face at me even daring to call the number shed given me Hmm

change - you are otherwise staying for one dr that will not be there and crap - no chance move to good dr's and get better service

i moved this year and new receptionists are angels compared with dragons i was used to

ivykaty44 · 21/10/2010 17:05

go and finmd nice gp's in the area - doesn't have to be either of these two

mosschops30 · 21/10/2010 17:11

thats it really, we are stuck with two. And the new one is amazing, has about 15 GP's, nurse practitioners, its own pharmacy.
Just hope I can persuade them to take me without coming over badly and them hating me before Ive even signed up!
