Judgmental vs having an opinion?

I am new to mumsnet and have found on talk there are a lot of accusations flying around of posters being 'judgemental' and 'generalising' Hmm.
I am curious about when having an opinion crosses the line into being being judgmental? Another question, when does coming to a personal conclusion based on your own experiences become generalising? Thanks Smile

As a rule of thumb, it's "judgemental" if you disagree with it, and "a valid opinion" if you agree. And it's "generalising" when you are an exception to it, or know people who are, but "fair comment" if you think all "Xs" are "Y" by default.

I think it is more of an issue of a person making assumptions about posters ..

There are many MNetters with opinions that are different to mine, but they are eloquent and argue their corner without name calling and verbal abuse ...
