DNA issue

Ok, I shall try to keep this short, back in April my DP was advised that he had a 5yr old DS.
I was suspicious that it had taken this long for the mother to admit that he was the father. This happened way before I met him so that is not the issue.
I am just concerned that he has just totally taken it on board that this child is his. I cannot see a family resemblance and to me it just seems a tad suspicious that after all this time she has decided that he is the father.
I am curious about the law on this scenario, she hasn't gone through the CSA to claim any money but got her daughter to mail his daughter, which I find very bizarre.
Who's responsability is it to get DNA tests done, surely a mother would have to prove that the child was a certain persons. Or if it was taken to the CSA would they pay for DNA to be done ?

I don't think it's anyone's responsibility to get DNA tests done. If she wanted to go through the CSA, and he denied paternity, DNA tests would be done by the CSA, who would pay if he is not the father - but your DP would pay if he is. However, if he's happy to accept paternity, there's no need for DNA tests at all.

What does the mum say she wants? Just for her DC to know dad?

If I was in this situation I would pay for the DNA test to be 100% certain. It would be awful to get to know a child thinking you're their parent, and then find out later that is not the case.

What if the mother got arsey in a few years and said someone else was the father. I couldn't live with the doubt.

I just didn't want my DP getting attached to the child and paying for a child that he wasn't sure is 100% his. And he isn't 100% sure that the child is his, he is just going on her word. She asks for money all the time and my DP does spend some time with the child. I haven't actually asked the question of what the mother wants, it just seems suspicious to me that she has waited 5 years to decide. Thanks for your comments anyway. And yes I would rather him get the tests done so that he has the peace of mind of knowing but also it is not just him involved, he has other children to think of too and their feelings.
