My DD (year 2)wants to go to an after school club. Limited places, so consent form and money for club had to be in today. Only 10 places so first come, first served basis -fair enough. She goes to a breakfast club, so I put money and form in her book bag.(have always done this with consent forms, money for stuff etc and teaching assistant takes it out, passes on) When I picked her up this pm, money and form were still in her bag, so took it round to the office. Told by lady in office that places were already allocated, and she should have handed money to teacher herself. She has never had to do this and never been told she had to do it now she is in year 2. Explained this to office lady and told tough, she is in year 2 and should have known! DD now very upset as really wanted to go
This is what I'm not sure about- had to speak to head teacher about something and she could see DD upset, so told her what happened. She said to give her the form and money and she would try to squeeze her on into the club. I wasn't sure this was right at the time, but now I think I should just have said "No, its fine, I just need to clarify this was the case with year 2 so I would know in the future" DD now really happy she might get a place, I feel awful because there might be other children who didn't get a place either. Should I just tell head that we will wait until next term and try for a place then?

If the head has made an effort then I would wait to see if a place is allocated and accept it if there is. If not I would thank the head for trying.

Did you say that your DD hadn't been told that she had to give in the money herself which is different to last year? If so then I think it's fair enough, the head may be able to remind everyone and ensure it never happens again.

The teaching assistant may have been ill etc or they may have just changed what they do. You never know with after school clubs either, they will probably have one or two drop out so it'll work out. :)

Thank you both, you have made me feel better.Smile
No she hadn't been told to hand it in herself WMMC, thats what I found really unfair
